Broncos' Jamaal Charles: Dashes for 52 total yards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles ran for 46 yards on nine carries and added a six-yard catch in Sunday's 42-17 win over Dallas.

Charles saw the field for just over a quarter of Denver's 77 offensive plays, 20 in all. It's encouraging that he got the ball on half those snaps, but he's very clearly second fiddle to C.J. Anderson, who has been described recently by head coach Vance Joseph as a bell cow and who saw the field on 56 offensive snaps on Sunday. Concerning from Charles' perspective is the imminent return of second-year back Devontae Booker, who got first-team reps in the offseason before a wrist injury, perhaps as early as this week. Booker figures to eat into both Anderson and Charles' touches and it will be interesting to see how Denver approaches their rushing corps from a game-day perspective as Charles does not provide much on special teams while rookie De'Angelo Henderson has been one of the team's core special-teamers.

Broncos' Jamaal Charles: Fumbles in fourth quarter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles rushed 10 times for 40 yards and lost a fumble in the fourth quarter of Monday's win over the Chargers.

Prior to the costly fourth-quarter fumble, Charles looked spry and flashed signs of the explosiveness and vision that made him a go-to fantasy asset in the past. However, he also was out carried 20 to 10 by C.J. Anderson, and it's difficult to project how Charles' fumble will impact his standing in the backfield. Looking ahead to Week 2, Charles checks out as a risky starting option in most settings.

Broncos' Jamaal Charles: Wraps up roster spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles, who looked sharp while racking up 42 total yards (27 rushing, 15 receiving) Saturday against the Packers, has locked up a roster spot as per head coach Vance Joseph, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Coming into the summer, the former Pro Bowler wasn't assured of sticking through final cuts, but he apparently showed enough in camp practices to have Saturday's effort serve as the clincher in Joseph's mind. With Devontae Booker (wrist) set to miss the first two regular-season games at a minimum, Saturday's announcement ostensibly leaves Charles as the top complement to starter C.J. Anderson, giving him at least a couple of contests to stake his claim to a spot in the backfield rotation even when Booker returns.

Broncos' Jamaal Charles: Looks sharp in return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles gained 27 yards on four carries and 15 yards on two catches (three targets) in Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay.

Making his only appearance of the preseason, Charles mixed in behind C.J. Anderson throughout the first half and gained at least three yards on each of his six touches. The 30-year-old looked quick and elusive, while rookie De'Angelo Henderson fumbled twice (and lost one). Charles did leave at one point to be evaluated for a concussion, but he was cleared and made a quick return to the game. With Devontae Booker (wrist) reportedly targeting a Week 3 return, Charles is a clear favorite to enter Week 1 as Anderson's complement in the Denver backfield. The role could include quite a bit of passing-down work, considering Anderson hasn't been much of a receiving threat since 2014 when Peyton Manning was still lighting it up.

Broncos' Jamaal Charles: Evaluated for concussion, cleared to return Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles was evaluated for a concussion but has been cleared to return to Saturday's game against the 49ers, Jeff Legwold of reports.

Despite the scare, it seems that Charles avoided a concussion. He'll likely be evaluated more by team doctors after the game, but considering he returned to the game, it can likely be assumed that he's healthy.
