SAN DIEGO -- Barry Bonds has only one hit this season, yet the San Francisco Giants have scored 18 runs and swept their opening three-game series.
"It's tough to take three games from anybody, especially early," new manager Felipe Alou said after the defending NL champions beat the San Diego Padres 5-3 Wednesday night.
"I'm happy with the team in general. Spirits are high and they're playing together really well. They're tough."
Marquis Grissom's three-run double highlighted a five-run third inning and San Francisco's bullpen threw four scoreless innings.
The Giants are 31-10 against the Padres since the start of the 2001 season, and have swept their NL West rivals six times in their past 15 series.
Bonds went 0-for-4 and has just a three-run homer in 10 at-bats this season. Facing Jesse Orosco with a runner on third in the seventh, Bonds popped up to shortstop to drop to 4-for-26 (.154) lifetime against the 45-year-old lefty.
After hitting seven home runs in the first two games, the Giants took advantage of wildness by Oliver Perez (0-1), who walked four in the decisive third inning.
Rich Aurilia hit an RBI double with one out and Perez walked the next three batters, including J.T. Snow with the bases loaded to force in another run.
Grissom followed with a three-run double. Right fielder Xavier Nady tried to make a running catch but the ball hit off the heel of his glove just before he ran into the fence.
"We're playing good baseball and really depending on one another," Grissom said. "You've got to beat our lineup, not just Barry."
San Francisco's Damian Moss (1-0) also walked six, in five innings, and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits. Tim Worrell pitched the ninth for his second save, striking out Sean Burroughs with runners at the corners to end it.
Making his 16th career start, Perez lasted just four innings to tie his career worst, and walked six to match his career high. He gave up five runs on four hits.
After throwing 39 pitches in the first two innings, Perez threw 37 in the third.
"Ollie pitched himself into trouble," manager Bruce Bochy said. "The big inning killed us. He was his own worst enemy."
Said Perez: "I tried to get out of it as soon as I could. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to."
The teams combined to issue 17 walks.
Nady, a rookie, hit his first career homer -- and the Padres' first of the year -- on the first pitch of the fourth inning. It came in Nady's ninth big league at-bat. He had one at-bat in September 2000, getting a pinch-hit single and scoring his first run.
Brian Buchanan hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the fourth to pull the Padres to 5-3. San Diego's first run scored on an error by Giants third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo in the third.

Bonds needs 46 homers to tie his godfather, Willie Mays, for third on the career list with 660. ... Bonds needs seven steals to reach 500. ... San Diego Chargers QB Drew Brees took batting practice with the Padres. He didn't reach the seats. Brees also took BP before a game last year. ... Thursday is military opening day in San Diego. As a tribute to the area's large military population, the Padres will wear camouflage jerseys for the fourth straight year.
