MIAMI -- Preston Wilson is enjoying his return to Florida, while the Marlins can't wait for him to head back to Colorado.
Wilson homered against his former team for the second straight night and drove in four runs as the Rockies snapped a five-game losing streak, beating the Florida Marlins 5-4 Saturday night.
"We just need wins," Wilson said. "I wanted to win in Atlanta just as much as I want to win here. This is baseball. It's nothing personal."
Wilson's three-run blast into the upper deck in left highlighted a four-run third inning against Michael Tejera (0-1). Wilson, who also homered Friday, is playing his first series in Florida since being traded to Colorado in November.
"You always want to go back and beat the team that traded you," Florida manager Jeff Torborg said. "He is swinging the bat super."
Jason Jennings (3-3) pitched seven strong innings, giving the Rockies their first win by a starter this month. The staff was 0-4 with a 7.71 ERA in eight starts in May.
The Marlins have dropped seven of eight and can't seem to shake the injury bug to their pitchers.
Tejera lasted only three innings, leaving after injuring his right Achilles' tendon while running out a grounder. Tejera hit into a double play in the third and stumbled across the bag, landing awkwardly. He also was experiencing back pains following the play.
He threw a couple of warmup tosses in the fourth, but left the game and was replaced by Toby Borland. Tejera, who is expected to make his next start, allowed four runs and four hits.
The Marlins already have three pitchers on the DL. A.J. Burnett recently had Tommy John surgery and is expected to be out 12-to-18 months. Mark Redman is out with a broken left thumb, and Josh Beckett sprained his right elbow on Wednesday.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle was ejected in the second inning by home plate umpire Derryl Cousins for defending the pace of the game by Jennings.
According to Hurdle, Jennings was twice warned by Cousins to speed up the pace of the game.
Jennings was in the on-deck circle when the Rockies recorded their last out in the second. Jennings said Cousins issued his second warning about the pace of the game.
That was enough for Hurdle.
"Being efficient with the game is an excellent idea, but when you're in a hurry to finish it, that's unacceptable," Hurdle said.
Jennings allowed two runs -- one earned -- and nine hits. Jose Jimenez worked a shaky ninth for eighth save in nine opportunities.
Jimenez allowed two runs before retiring Mike Lowell on a groundout with runners on first and second to end the game.
"My performance was more economical, more efficient," Jennings said. "I had good movement on my sinker. Putting up four runs in the third was big, and our defense was outstanding."
Jennings started the third with a walk and took second on Jay Payton's one-out single. Todd Helton knocked in Jennings with a single before Wilson made it 4-0 with his ninth homer.
The Rockies also turned in strong defensive plays to deny the Marlins a pair of runs.
In the second, Payton fielded Todd Hollandsworth's double off the wall in left and made a quick relay to shortstop Jose Hernandez, who gunned down Juan Encarnacion at the plate.
Encarnacion was thrown out again at the plate in the sixth by right-fielder Larry Walker.
Colorado added another run in the fifth on Wilson's sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
The Marlins scored twice in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Mike Redmond had an RBI groundout and Hollandsworth scored on a passed ball to close the gap to 5-2.
Notes
- Bench coach Jamie Quirk ran the club in Hurdle's absence.
- Marlins SS Alex Gonzalez was back in the lineup after missing four games with a sprained right wrist and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Marlins catcher Ivan Rodriguez left the game in the sixth inning, complaining of dizziness after taking a foul tip off the mask. Rodriguez had his sixth passed ball of the season, matching last year's total.
- Payton went 2-for-3 and is 13-for-27 on the current road trip.
