SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds is finally starting to like what he's seeing from the San Francisco Giants.

Bonds hit his second home run in two days, Pedro Feliz hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the eighth and the Giants rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Wednesday night for their season-high fifth straight win.

"We're just getting timely hitting and timely pitching, things that didn't happen earlier," Bonds said. "It's good. We're winning. That's all that matters."

Bonds also is happy to have his personal stretch man around again -- he has homered twice since Harvey Shields joined the Giants medical staff Monday.

Shields had been banned from the clubhouse during spring training, when baseball began cracking down on who was allowed in clubhouses following a federal steroids probe that focuses on Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, one of four men indicted on charges of illegal distribution of steroids.

"Harvey's been working on me hard," Bonds said. "That's my medicine man."

Bonds hit a 2-2 pitch from Casey Daigle to dead center for his 12th homer and career No. 670 leading off the fourth inning to give San Francisco a 2-1 lead -- but the Giants couldn't hold it for starter Kirk Rueter again.

While Bonds' homer Tuesday night was controversial because a fan interfered by touching the ball with his glove, Bonds made sure this one was way out of reach. It traveled an estimated 460 feet.

In the sixth, left fielder Luis Gonzalez had to go against the wall to catch a long fly by Bonds.

Felix Rodriguez (2-3) pitched the eighth for the win. Brian Bruney (2-2) walked Michael Tucker and Marquis Grissom in the bottom half, then Randy Choate entered to face Bonds.

Fans chanted "Barry! Barry!" but Bonds walked on four pitches to bring up Feliz. Jose Valverde entered and Feliz doubled to left-center on an 0-2 pitch.

"I want to be in RBI situations every time," Feliz said. "I know they're going to walk him. I've got to be ready."

Robby Hammock had two hits and drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who fell to 12 games under .500 -- their worst record since the club's inaugural season in 1998, when Arizona finished 16 games under at 65-97.

Matt Herges pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 16 chances, then proclaimed afterward that the Giants have found their swagger again.

"This has the feel of last year," he said, referring to the Giants' 100-win season in 2003 when they led the NL West from opening day. "The way we're playing now, we're getting big hits, the pitchers are getting quality start after quality start and Bob Brenly's pitching to Barry - that's kind of nice. ... Confidence is overflowing."

Scott Hairston also had two hits for the D-Backs. Daigle, a 23-year-old rookie right-hander facing the Giants for the first time, allowed two runs on five hits in six innings, struck out two and walked two to win for the first time in three starts.

When asked about the walk to Bonds - the slugger's major league-leading 60th - Arizona manager Brenly's frustration came out.

"I have a problem with all the walks," he said. "I've been seeing so many I'm tired of it. Throw it underhand, make them put it in play. The guys have great physical tools and they don't use them."

Five Diamondbacks pitchers combined to walk six batters.

Rueter pitched a solid game until running into trouble in the seventh.

The lefty worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second after Hammock reached on a fielding error by Feliz. Daigle hit a slow chopper to Rueter, who threw home to get Steve Finley, and then A.J. Pierzynski completed the double play by throwing out Daigle at first.

Rueter retired the side in order in the third and sixth. He then gave way to Jim Brower with one out in the seventh after giving up an RBI single to Alex Cintron that brought in the tying run and a walk to Luis Gonzalez.

Shea Hillenbrand grounded into a fielder's choice to score pinch-hitter Chad Tracy for the go-ahead run to make it 3-2.

Damon Minor started at first base for San Francisco a day after he was called up from Triple-A Fresno when starter J.T. Snow went on the disabled list with a knee injury. The 30-year-old Minor returned to the majors after a one-year hiatus.

Notes

Bonds made a fielding error in the seventh when he bobbled Cintron's single. ... The Giants are 5-10 against the NL West this year. San Francisco had a major league-best 52-23 mark against the division last season. The Giants play all division opponents until starting interleague play June 8 at Tampa Bay. ... In the first, Bonds fouled one into McCovey Cove before flying out to center. The 39-year-old is third on the career home run list behind Hank Aaron (755) and Babe Ruth (714). Back spasms forced the six-time NL MVP to miss five of six games last week.
