SAN FRANCISCO -- Rich Aurilia returned to San Francisco and made some new enemies, which is just fine by him.
Aurilia, who played the first nine years of his career with the Giants, had three hits in his first game for San Diego. Jake Peavy won for the fifth time in six starts, helping the Padres beat the Giants 7-1 Wednesday night.
"I'm playing at a place where I feel comfortable against my old buddies. They're the bad guys now," Aurilia said. "It feels good to be back in the league."
Aurilia, who received a warm ovation from the sellout crowd when he batted in the first inning, heard some boos after he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
"He's a guy we've always thought a lot of," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. "He's got a lot of experience and played with winning clubs here."
Aurilia, acquired Monday in a trade with Seattle, probably will fill in at shortstop the next few days after Khalil Greene was hit by a pitch just below his left knee by Wayne Franklin in the seventh inning. Greene is expected to miss a few days with a bad bruise.
"I think he's going to be a big help for them," Giants first baseman J.T. Snow said. "He knows the NL West pretty well. It wasn't strange to see Richie since we saw him in spring training."
Phil Nevin had two of San Diego's 16 hits and drove in a run in his first game off the disabled list. San Diego won for the sixth time in seven games and moved back ahead of the Giants into second place in the NL West, 2 ½ games behind Los Angeles.
"I hit between (Brian) Giles and (Ryan) Klesko," Nevin said. "I'm going to get some pitches to hit and the opportunity to drive in runs. It's a nice feeling to go out there with these guys."
Snow homered for the Giants, who lost for just the third time in 10 games.
Peavy (7-3) allowed four hits, struck out five and walked two in eight innings, and Blaine Neal finished the five-hitter.
Peavy has not allowed more than four runs in any of his 13 starts this season, and has allowed two runs or fewer in 12 of them. He's given up just one run in 21 innings against the Giants this season.
"I had a little adrenaline going knowing these guys are in the race with us," Peavy said. "I got an early lead and felt good."
After Snow's homer and A.J. Pierzynski's single in the second inning, Peavy retired 12 in a row and 15 of 16 before Edgardo Alfonzo singled with two outs in the seventh. Peavy struck out five and walked two.
"I'm getting better," Peavy said. "From 2002 and 2003 I think I'm getting better and smarter. Having a good team around me is nice."
San Diego scored three runs on five hits in the first inning against Kirk Rueter (5-8), getting RBI singles from Nevin, Klesko and Jay Payton.
Nevin, who had surgery on July 5 to repair damage to cartilage in his right knee, has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games. Klesko has hit in a season-high nine straight and 15 of 17 overall.
"Nevin is probably sore and it's 50-50 if he plays tomorrow," Bochy said. "But he carried us before he got hurt and he stepped up in his first at-bat. It's great to have him back."
Rueter allowed four runs and 11 hits in five innings, dropping to 11-4 against San Diego and losing consecutive starts to the Padres for the first time in his career.
"I just wish a couple of those groundballs in the first were outs," Rueter said. "The Padres are a good team, and they're going to be there at the end. They're not going anywhere."
Miguel Ojeda, who went 3-for-4, led off the fourth with a homer and added an RBI single in the seventh.
Mark Loretta, who had three hits, added an RBI single in the ninth against Matt Herges.
San Diego is 26-51 at the Giants' new ballpark, which opened in 2000, but has won four straight there and leads the overall season series 6-2. The Padres were a combined 4-15 in San Francisco the previous two years.

- Padres OF Brian Buchanan was sent outright to Triple-A Portland to make room for Nevin.
- Giants RHP Jesse Foppert, who had ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow last September, is expected to throw 25 pitches in a minor league rehab assignment Sunday.

- Barry Bonds did not reach base for the first time in 25 games.
