DENVER -- Jason Jennings was tired of losing, and he wouldn't let a home run by Jeff Kent spoil his outing.
Jennings pitched his third career complete game for his first win in 12 starts, Brad Hawpe hit a two-run homer and the Colorado Rockies routed the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-1 Friday night.
"I'd been frustrated from the end of the season on to get a win and I was determined to get one," Jennings said. "After Kent hit the home run I was really determined."
Jennings (1-2) scattered 10 hits, struck out six and walked two in his first victory since Aug. 17, 2004. He induced 15 groundball outs in the first seven innings.
"Jason brought his `A' game tonight and from the first inning to the finish he was efficient," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. "He kept the ball down, mixed in his breaking ball, threw his changeup. He was on top of his game."
Los Angeles manager Jim Tracy was equally impressed: "We got some base hits and tried to get some innings going, and then he would wipe it out with a double-play ball and knock the inning down."
To show its appreciation, the Colorado bullpen rushed the mound and mobbed the right-hander whose 24th win at Coors Field matched Pedro Astacio for the most wins at the ballpark.
"We were grateful," Colorado reliever Scott Dohmann said. "He gave us a night off."
Kent spoiled Jennings' shutout bid with a leadoff home run -- his fifth of the season -- in the eighth inning. Los Angeles lost its second consecutive game after reeling off eight victories in a row.
Aaron Miles had four hits, Cory Sullivan three and every starter except Jennings scored a run for the Rockies.
Colorado roughed up Jeff Weaver (2-1) for 13 hits and eight runs. He didn't get a batter out in the fifth inning.
"There is nothing I can pinpoint throwing-wise," Weaver said of his first outing at Coors Field. "Whether it was fastball, off-speed, changeup, they put it in play and made something happen."
Miles and J.D. Closser had RBI singles in the second inning, and Hawpe homered into the left-field seats after Matt Holliday singled in the third inning to make it 4-0.
Todd Helton and Holliday had back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth to make it 6-0.
The Rockies chased Weaver in the fifth after he allowed a double to Desi Relaford and an RBI single to center by Sullivan. Buddy Carlyle replaced Weaver and allowed a two-run double to Clint Barmes.
"Maybe this will get Jason over the hump and get him rolling," Hurdle said.
Jennings' last complete game was May 21, 2003, at Los Angeles. ... RHP Eric Gagne received treatment, but did not have his normal throwing session. ... An examination by Dr. Frank Jobe in Los Angeles revealed a spur in the right shoulder of RHP Elmer Dessens. ... OF Dustan Mohr will begin a four-game rehab assignment in Colorado Springs on Saturday. ... Jennings was picked off first base by Dodger catcher Paul Bako.
