Diamondbacks 7, Orioles 4

PHOENIX -- Fans coming for post-game fireworks saw some in-game pyrotechnics from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Eric Byrnes homered and the Diamondbacks rallied from four runs down to beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-4 on Saturday night.

"We know we've got the offense to score some runs," said third baseman Mark Reynolds, whose two-run triple capped a three-run fifth and gave Arizona its first lead at 5-4. "It's just a matter of guys putting some at-bats together."

Arizona's comeback started in the fourth with walks to Conor Jackson and Reynolds and a wild pitch by Brian Burres. Miguel Montero's line-drive, two-run single to right made it 4-2.

Byrnes made it 4-3 when he led off the fifth with a drive off the facade of the second deck in left field. The shot, estimated at 467 feet, was the eighth-longest home run in Chase Field history.

"I felt fine the whole game but the ball wasn't going where I wanted it to," Burres said.

Burres surrendered a single to Augie Ojeda and retired Orlando Hudson on a fly ball before getting pulled. Rob Bell (0-1) gave up an infield single to Jackson and Reynolds tripled high off the center-field wall, scoring both runners to give Arizona a 5-4 lead.

"That's a big confidence booster for me," said Reynolds, whose playing time has decreased since Chad Tracy returned from the disabled list June 11. "I've been hitting the ball hard but I finally found a hole."

Arizona added two more in the sixth on Ojeda's run-scoring single and an RBI double by Hudson.

Bell allowed three runs on four hits in an inning of work, walking two and striking out one.

Juan Cruz (3-1), who came on in relief of Livan Hernandez and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, gave up two hits and struck out four in two innings.

"We had the bases loaded with nobody out and didn't get anything out of it, and we had a few other scoring opportunities," said Orioles interim manager Dave Trembley. "We basically just didn't take advantage of our chances. When you do that and you're the visiting club, you usually find yourself playing from behind late."

Jose Valverde, the Diamondbacks' sixth pitcher, pitched the ninth for his 24th save in 27 opportunities, and set a franchise-record with his 75th career save.

"We like our bullpen," said Arizona manager Bob Melvin. "We like it when he get to the seventh inning and can go (Tony) Pena, Brandon (Lyon) and Valverde."

Burres gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead when he singled home Jay Gibbons on his first career hit.

Baltimore extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Gibbons walked and Freddie Bynum homered just over Carlos Quentin's outstretched glove in right. Paul Bako then walked and scored one out later on Brian Roberts' triple into the left-field corner.

Hernandez went four innings, matching his season low, and allowed four runs on nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

"I felt much better today," said Hernandez, who has allowed 17 earned runs on 35 hits over 14 innings in his last three starts. "I'm close. I'm close to getting better and maybe the next time will be better."

Notes

Arizona has rallied to win from four runs or more four times this season. ... Byrnes also owns the second-longest homer at Chase Field, a 473-foot shot into the second deck off Philadelphia's Adam Eaton on May 8. ... Quentin saved at least two runs in the second when, with the bases loaded, he made a leaping grab of Corey Patterson's fly ball at the top of the right-field wall. ... Burres' RBI was the first of his career and the second by Baltimore pitchers in 11 interleague games.
