CHICAGO -- Shaun Marcum got Blue Jays manager John Gibbons' attention on Sunday.

Marcum gave up two hits in eight innings and Toronto beat the Chicago White Sox 4-1.

"Does he have pretty good stuff or what?" Gibbons said. "That forkball he pitches he can throw it at any time. That's a pretty good recipe. He's got a feel for what he is doing."

Marcum (7-4) struck out eight and walked one to outpitch Javier Vazquez one day after Mark Buehrle and Roy Halladay turned in impressive performances in the second game of the weekend series. Buehrle pitched eight innings in Chicago's 2-0 win over Halladay and Toronto on Saturday night.

"Marcum was unbelievable and Vazquez was too," Gibbons said. "Just like last night's game. Except this one broke our way."

Lyle Overbay broke a scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for the Blue Jays, who have won six of their last eight.

Jeremy Accardo pitched a scoreless ninth for his 17th save in 20 chances. The White Sox only sent 28 batters to the plate, one over the minimum.

"We got ahead with strike one on the fastball and I just mixed and match from there," Marcum said.

Vazquez (8-6) retired seven in a row before Curtis Thigpen walked with one out in the eighth. John McDonald and Reed Johnson then singled to load the bases, and Overbay followed with a fly ball to right to put Toronto ahead. The run broke a 21-inning scoreless steak for the Blue Jays.

"We've had some opportunities," Overbay said. "Me personally, I've had a few opportunities to score runs yesterday and today. It's a matter of getting good at-bats in those situations and I don't think we have."

Toronto pushed across three more runs in the eighth to make it 4-0. Alex Rios singled in a run off Vazquez and Troy Glaus followed with a fly ball to the left-field warning track. Podsednik got under the ball, but couldn't make the catch. The ball popped out of his mitt and McDonald and Rios scored.

"He's a good outfielder, but he's not a Gold Glover," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "He's not the best outfielder in the game, but he's done a pretty good job for us over the last three years."

Jermaine Dye homered off Marcum in the bottom half for his 19th of the season.

Dye becomes a free agent after the season and is getting tired of hearing about different trade scenarios involving his name with the non-waiver trading deadline approaching Tuesday.

"It will be good to get it over with. You don't want to have to get on a plane and go all the way to New York and find out you're gone," said Dye, whose team visits the Yankees on Tuesday to start a three-game series.

"We will see what happens. Hopefully (I'll) still be here."

Vazquez pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, and five hits. He struck out five and walked three. He had won five straight decisions.

Toronto threatened in the sixth inning. McDonald legged out a leadoff double and advanced to third on Johnson's sacrifice bunt. With the infield in, Overbay hit a grounder to shortstop Juan Uribe. Uribe held McDonald at third and threw out Overbay at first. Vazquez then struck out Rios to end the inning.

Marcum retired nine straight to start the game. Jerry Owens broke his streak with an infield single in the fourth inning. But Marcum continued to face the minimum through seven innings. He struck out Alex Cintron and Jim Thome to end the seventh.

The only hit off Vazquez through five innings was Overbay's double in the first inning.

Notes

White Sox 1B Paul Konerko had the day off. ... White Sox C A.J. Pierzynski didn't start but struck out in pinch-hit appearance in the ninth. ... Marcum matched a career high with his eight innings.
