SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Kevin Millwood felt so good after his start Sunday that he went straight to the bullpen to throw some more.
Millwood allowed four runs and six hits over five innings in the Texas Rangers' 10-7 victory over the San Diego Padres. The right-hander threw a 20-pitch bullpen session after leaving the game.
"It's nice to know that at this point I feel like I could have thrown 80 to 90 pitches and feel good about it," said Millwood, already selected to start on opening day.
The Padres scored three runs in the third and Peter Ciofrone led off the fourth with a homer off Millwood, who struck out two and walked one.
"He went through two innings where they punched him around a little bit," manager Ron Washington said. "But then he came back fighting like the type of Millwood that he is. Then he went down to the bullpen and threw some more. He's an animal."
Michael Young, Chris Davis and Joaquin Arias homered for the Rangers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Josh Hamilton hit a two-run double in Texas' six-run fourth.
Padres right-hander Nick Schmidt, who had been scheduled to pitch three innings, did not retire any of the six batters he faced. He allowed six runs -- five earned -- and three hits with two walks.
"The best laid plans," San Diego manager Bud Black said. "I saw the ball up a bit and maybe a little bit of spring training nerves."
