PEORIA, Ariz. -- Ichiro Suzuki was sidelined for the third straight day with fatigue and was examined by a doctor Thursday while his Seattle Mariners teammates routed the San Diego Padres 18-3.
Suzuki, who returned from the World Baseball Classic on March 26, was lightheaded earlier in the week. He played four games with Seattle after helping Japan win its second World Baseball Classic.
"He came and we talked to him," Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said. "He said he's tired. He's got some fatigue. We're going to make sure that nothing's wrong and have him checked out by the doctor."
San Diego's Chris Young has been thinking about breaking camp and leaving Arizona, and he pitched like it. The right-hander labored for 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits and four walks.
"I feel good and I get to go home," said Young, who finished with a 12.38 ERA in the Cactus League. "[Pitching here] affects me, probably more than it should. But anyway, I'm excited for a change of scenery."
Seattle's Carlos Silva ended his camp on a good note, limiting the Padres to two runs on six hits. Silva, who is in the second year of a four-year, $48 million deal, made several adjustments after a recent discussion with first-year manager Wakamatsu and pitching coach Rick Adair.
"It was nice and easy," Silva said. "I didn't overthrow. I [threw] two bullpens and felt really good, really good, especially my command. I usually throw a lot of strikes and I wasn't doing that lately."
Endy Chavez batted leadoff in place of Suzuki and went 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a home run.
