Giants slip by Dodgers in year's final spring training game

    •

SAN FRANCISCO -- Jonathan Sanchez struck out six in 4 2/3 innings and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday in this year's final spring training game.

Sanchez gave up one run on six hits in his third start since pitching for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. The lefty will pitch Saturday in San Diego

Dodgers starter James McDonald went four innings, giving up three runs and six hits. He'll make his first major league start Friday at Arizona.

"I wanted to go five innings, that was the plan," McDonald said. "There's still work to be done. I'm excited but I don't want to get satisfied."

Dodgers manager Joe Torre liked what he saw from the team's fifth starter.

"I thought McDonald was good," he said. "I thought he got a little tired at the end. The thing I like about him is he doesn't let things get away from him. He doesn't lose his composure and that's rare for a young pitcher."

Bengie Molina had two hits and drove in a run for the Giants. Fred Lewis and Aaron Rowand also drove in runs.

James Loney had two hits and drove in the Dodgers' lone run. Josh Lindblom allowed two hits in his four scoreless innings.

    Notes

Dodgers pitchers Tanyon Sturtze and Eric Milton will open the season with Triple-A Albuquerque while Jason Schmidt will remain at their minor league complex in Arizona "until he's comfortable and wants to compete," Torre said. ... Several Dodgers regulars stayed behind and will join the team for Monday's opening day in San Diego: Casey Blake, Rafael Furcal, Orlando Hudson, Manny Ramirez and Russell Martin. ... The Giants completed their first winning spring since 2005. ... The Dodgers finished 15-22, losing 11 of their last 14.
