White Sox 4, Rangers 3

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jim Thome has enjoyed success against just about every pitcher the Rangers have thrown out there the past couple of seasons.

The White Sox designated hitter can add prized prospect Derek Holland to that list.

Thome hit a tying three-run double to punish the Rangers again, and Chris Getz added the go-ahead triple to lead the Chicago White Sox past Texas 4-3 on Friday night.

Hamilton to DL with rib injury

Thome, who had missed the last three games with a sore heel, is 18-for-36 with 16 RBI in his last 10 games at Texas.

Holland (0-1) came into the game with the bases loaded and the Rangers ahead 3-0.

After missing on the first 94-mph fastball he saw from Holland, Thome hit the next pitch, another fastball in the 90s, off the top of the 14-foot wall in left to tie it at 3.

"He's got a good arm," Thome said. "He threw me two fastballs. I don't know what the velocity was. But I knew he was throwing hard. The second one was down a little more and I was able to put a good swing on it."

The 21-year-old Holland acknowledged after the game he was a little nervous facing Thome, who is 17 years older.

"I grew up watching him play," Holland said. "He's still got it. He's swinging the bat well."

Ian Kinsler hit a leadoff homer, and Michael Young had three hits for the Rangers, who placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the 15-day disabled list before the game due to a strained left rib cage muscle.

Scott Feldman took a shutout into the sixth in his second start of the season.

"I couldn't have asked for a better job from Feldman," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Mark Buehrle (4-0) allowed three runs in six innings to improve to 11-3 against the Rangers. It is the second time in his career that Buehrle has started 4-0.

"It's a pretty ugly 4-0," White sox manager Ozzie Guillen joked. "He's always the same. It doesn't matter whether he's 8-0, he does the same job."

Feldman allowed three runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings. He retired the first 11 before giving up a single to Carlos Quentin.

Feldman allowed one hit through five innings and recorded the first two outs of the sixth before running into trouble. Getz and Josh Fields singled, and Quentin walked to load the bases and chase Feldman from the game.

Thome, who missed the previous three games due to a sore left heel, has 1,501 RBI in his career.

"Anytime you can accomplish something like that, it's an honor," Thome said. "Especially when it's a big hit in the game."

White Sox also used a two-out rally to take the lead in the seventh.

Scott Podsednik, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A before the game, had an infield single with two outs. Getz lined a pitch into right-center off Holland to give Chicago a 4-3 advantage.

Like Thome, Getz also returned from an injury. The second baseman missed the last five games with a fractured tip of his right middle finger.

"It was nice, having those two guys back healthy," Buehrle said. "Anytime you have Thome in the lineup, it's a positive."

With the help of a diving catch in right from Jermaine Dye, Octavio Dotel pitched a perfect seventh. Scott Linebrink followed with a scoreless eighth to preserve the lead.

Bobby Jenks pitched the ninth and is perfect in six save chances.

Kinsler hit a 2-0 pitch from Buehrle just over the fence in left for his seventh career leadoff homer

Elvis Andrus, who was in a 2-for-22 funk, tripled leading off the third and scored on Kinsler's sacrifice fly.

Two outs later, Andruw Jones added a run-scoring double to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.

Notes

Thome has reached base in 29 straight games at Texas, dating to 1998. ... Rangers DH Hank Blalock was 0-for 2 against Buehrle on Friday and is 3-for-32 in his career against the left-hander.
