Oakland at Arizona

    Athletics 11, Diamondbacks 2

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Brandon Moss is doing all he can to make people notice him.

It still might not be enough.

Moss went 3 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs as the Oakland Athletics routed an Arizona Diamondbacks split squad Sunday, 11-2.

Moss, batting .526 this spring, signed with Oakland in December when the club seemed to stockpile outfielders. Because of the logjam, Moss will most likely be sent down to Triple-A.

"Moss is a hitter, there is no doubt. He has shown it all spring," Oakland Manager Bob Melvin said. "He is a guy that has always hit but never really got a nice chance at the big league level. He has been there a little bit but scouts around the league will tell you he is a nice left-handed bat."

Oakland's starter Tyson Ross continued to impress as he threw three scoreless innings, allowing four hits and a walk. Ross, who is competing for a spot in the Oakland rotation, has not allowed a run in his last three outings. He improved to 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA.

"Absolutely not," said Melvin when asked if Ross' performance hurt his chances of making the rotation. "He was behind which we don't like to see but he is always one pitch away with the sinker. We would like to see him get ahead in the count more so he is a little bit less predictable."

Former A's starter Trevor Cahill gave up two runs in three innings for Arizona. He allowed two hits, walked two and had two strikeouts.

"I don't feel very comfortable throwing strikes," said Cahill, who was traded to the Diamondbacks from Oakland in December. "I was 2-0 on everybody I think. It is kind of ridiculous."

The A's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Suzuki connected off Cahill, his former battery mate, for his first home run of the spring.

"I thought he would be thinking I was going to throw him a sinker so I threw him a four-seamer," Cahill said. "That didn't work out. He has seen me throw more pitches than anyone else. I tried to outthink him but it didn't work."

The Athletics were leading 2-0 after three innings when the game was delayed by rain. Play resumed after a 36-minute delay.

The A's scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away. Moss had a two-run single in the seventh while Josh Horton doubled in a pair of runs in the eighth.

Third baseman Matt Davidson hit a two-run homer for Arizona, who had their four game winning streak snapped.

NOTES: With the win, Oakland's record improved to 13-4. The 13 wins lead all teams this spring. It is the team's most Spring Training victories since 2009. . The two teams will again face each other Monday. ... Former Diamondbacks' top prospect Jarrod Parker, who the A's acquired in the Cahill deal, will go against Arizona's Josh Collmenter.
