05/10/13RBMarcus LattimoreKnee When asked about sitting out the 2013 season because of a knee injury suffered in college, 49ers rookie running back Marcus Lattimore told the San Francisco Chronicle "I think that would be fine." Coach Jim Harbaugh said the right knee "looks good structurally" but warned against a quick return. Lattimore suffered a dislocated right knee cap with three torn ligaments in a vicious play last October, ending his collegiate career after deciding to turn pro. (Updated 05/10/2013)
04/22/13LBLarry GrantSuspension The NFL has suspended linebacker Larry Grant for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating their policy on performance-enhancing substances. (Updated 04/22/2013)
04/01/13RBKendall HunterAchilles The Associated Press reports that 49ers running back Kendall Hunter is already sprinting in his comeback from last year's torn Achilles in November. The report says he expects to be cutting soon and should be at full strength for training camp. "I'm always encouraged," Hunter said. (Updated 04/17/2013)
03/13/13WRKyle WilliamsKnee 49ers receiver Kyle Williams, who ended last season in Week 12 with a torn ACL, announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he ran for the first time since having surgery on his knee and "felt great." He ended the tweet with the message "#speed." (Updated 03/27/2013)
02/08/13WRMario ManninghamKnee Comcast Sports Net reports that 49ers receiver Mario Manningham is the front-runner for the No. 3 receiver job in San Francisco if healthy. Manningham is coming off a torn ACL last year. He is expected to enter training camp in a competition with second-year receiver A.J. Jenkins and rookie Quinton Patton for the third job behind Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. (Updated 05/06/2013)
02/05/13DLJustin SmithTriceps The man known as “Cowboy” wasn't going to miss the Super Bowl. But maybe Justin Smith should have sat out. Limited by a partially torn left triceps, the 49ers' defensive end struggled. Smith finished with three tackles -- with no quarterback hurries, hits or sacks. Now comes word, via Comcast Sports Net, that the 33-year-old Smith will undergo surgery this week and need three months of rehab. The four-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury Dec. 16 against New England and missed the rest of the regular season. He returned for the playoffs wearing a brace on his left arm. (Updated 02/05/2013)

03/12/13DBBrent GrimesAchilles The Dolphins and former Falcons defensive back Brent Grimes have agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million ($3 million guaranteed), CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports. Grimes played in just one game last season because of an Achilles injury he suffered in the opener that landed him on injured reserve. Miami provided the most money in a deal, while Cleveland and Atlanta also displayed some interest. (Updated 03/30/2013)
02/10/13RBMichael TurnerAnkle The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports free agent Michael Turner plans to continue playing football in spite of not having a contract. Turner was released in March by the Falcons after failing a physical. He hurt his ankle in the NFC title game. (Updated 04/03/2013)
01/21/13QBMatt RyanShoulder Matt Ryan's receiving threats are well documented and the Falcons' run game got a strong upgrade in Steven Jackson. But the offensive line is undergoing some changes as center Todd McClure retired and Tyson Clabo was released. Ryan says not to worry about it. "We've got a guy in Peter Konz that played guard for us last year, but during practice, I got a lot of snaps with Peter. Joe Hawley has played a little bit for us when Todd’s been out for a series or two throughout games the last couple of years. I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine with those guys in terms of the snap," Ryan told 790 The Zone in Atlanta. "It’s a little different and that takes some getting used to so it becomes something you don’t even think about. ... We've got Mike Johnson who has played a number of different roles for us. Then a young guy like Lamar Holmes, he’s a guy we drafted high last year that we feel really good about. He’s extremely talented and I think he’s beginning to learn the offense more and more and this offseason has been productive for him. I’m excited about those guys. I think they’re fully capable of coming in and playing good football for us. They just need to do it." (Updated 05/17/2013)
