Five-star Finnish forward Lauri Markkanen has verbally committed to Arizona

Scout.com was first to report the news and spoke to the big man about his decision.

"I think I have a chance to go play against great guys every day in practice," Markkanen said. "I think I can get minutes here. I like everything I see here."

CBSSports.com published a feature on the big man yesterday, and he noted prior to his visit that the fact he "knew they had a good program" appealed to him about Arizona.

Markkanen is a 6-11 stretch-four who can score at all three levels and run the floor really well. He averaged 18.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game at the U18 European Championships this summer. An NCAA assistant who recruits Europe regularly said he doesn't think "he'll have any problem playing right away and making an impact at a high Division I level."

Markkanen is Arizona's only commitment for the 2016 class currently, following T.J. Leaf's decommitment earlier this summer. He had also been considering Utah and North Carolina.
