The Phillies have signed Scheiner, their fourth-round pick in the 2017 first-year player draft, to a contract, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Terms of the deal have not yet been reported. Scheiner was named Co-Player of the Year in the American Conference and a third-team All-American by Baseball America after hitting .346/.432/.667 with 18 home runs for the University of Houston this season. Johnny Almaraz, the Phillies' director of amateur scouting, told Meghan Montemurro of The Wilmington News Journal that Scheiner has good defensive ability at third and has a chance to hit for both average and power.
