  • Pirates' Isaac Mattson: Pitches scoreless inning in loss

Mattson allowed two hits while striking out two in one inning Monday in a 5-0 loss to the Padres. Mattson was a revelation out of the bullpen for the Pirates last season, posting a 2.45 ERA in 44 appearances after being called up in May. The right-hander has had a heavy workload so far this season, pitching in six out of Pittsburgh's 10 games and posting a 3.00 ERA and seven strikeouts. The Pittsburgh bullpen does not have many proven right-handers other than Dennis Santana, which means Mattson should continue appearing in many games this season.

  • Pirates' Isaac Mattson: Picks up third win

Mattson (3-1) allowed two hits and struck out three across two scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Giants. Mattson covered the ninth and 10th innings to earn the win and managed to strike out the final two batters of the game with runners at second and third. He's struck out 14 batters across his last 10.2 innings while allowing only three earned runs and has begun to be trusted in higher-leverage spots. As a result, Mattson has emerged as a name to keep in mind for save chances if both David Bednar and Dennis Santana get traded prior to Thursday's deadline.

Mattson allowed one hit and struck out three across 1.2 scoreless innings to earn a hold Monday against the Brewers. The Pirates deployed a bullpen approach Monday, and Mattson was tasked with holding the lead in the seventh and eighth innings. He faced the top five hitters in the Brewers' order and allowed only a single to William Contreras. Mattson could be a candidate to see more consistent high-leverage spots moving forward, as he delivered a 9:2 K:BB across 10.1 innings while allowing only two earned runs with a 0.58 WHIP since being recalled June 7.

  • Orioles' Isaac Mattson: Healthy at Triple-A

Mattson (shoulder) has made three relief appearances for Triple-A Norfolk this season, covering three no-hit scoreless innings while striking out three and issuing one walk. Mattson dealt with a sore right shoulder in spring training, which closed the door on any outside chance he had for making the Orioles' Opening Day roster. After being outrighted off the 40-man roster April 8, Mattson will face an even tougher time making it back in the big leagues even though he's now healthy again.
