Koufos supplied 14 points (7-8 FG), 14 rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block across 25 minutes in Thursday's 121-115 loss to the Clippers. The veteran center has gotten the new calendar year to a strong start, as he's now posted three double-digit scoring efforts over five games on his way to averages of 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 20.4 minutes. Koufos has also been a force on the boards over the last two contests in particular, averaging 14.5 rebounds during that span. The 28-year-old's minutes have been at 21 or greater in three of his past four games, and Koufos always has the potential for turning in above-average scoring and rebounding production when receiving that allotment of playing time.
Koufos accounted for 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and two steals across 23 minutes in Saturday's 106-98 win over the Nuggets. The veteran has consecutive double-digit scoring efforts since returning to the bench after starting the New Year's Eve tilt against the Hornets. Koufos has shot 10-for-14 in those contests and continues to serve as a consistent source of boards irrespective of whether he's on the starting five or second unit. Factoring in Saturday's production, he's averaging a solid 5.6 rebounds across a modest 18.2 minutes over 37 games.
Koufos will come off the bench for Tuesday's tilt against the Hornets, Sean Cunningham of ABC 10 Sacramento reports. Koufos drew a start for Sunday's loss to the Grizzlies, but only saw 10 minutes on the court. The Kings shift their starting lineups on a night-to-night basis, so it is somwhat hard to find a rhyme or reason to their logic. Still, Koufos averages 13.9 minutes per game as a starter compared to 18.7 as a reserve, so he figures to see a heavier workload Tuesday.
Koufos will start at center Sunday against the Grizzlies, Jason Jones of The Sacramento Bee reports. Koufos will draw the start as the Kings continue to go with a carousal of starters in their frontcourt. The big man is averaging 5.2 points and 5.7 rebounds across 18.4 minutes so far this season.
Koufos will return to the bench for Tuesday's matchup with the Sixers, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports. The Kings were without Zach Randolph (rest) on Sunday, which allowed Koufos to jump into the starting lineup in his place. However, with Randolph back, the Kings will start Randolph and Willie Cauley-Stein at power forward and center, respectively, against the 76ers, so that sends Koufos back to a bench role. Koufos likely won't have value in the majority of leagues with the demotion back to the bench.
