Red Sox infielder Jonathan Herrera filled in capably for Dustin Pedroia Saturday, in what is likely to be just a one-time thing.
Herrera started with Pedroia out with an injury, though Pedroia is expected back in the lineup by Sunday. He was 3 for 4 out of the No. 9 spot, scoring two runs and driving in one more in a 7-1 win over the Rays.
Herrera has appeared in 26 games for the Red Sox, largely as a reserve. He is hitting .222/.314/.222 in 45 at-bats.
