  • Rays' C.J. Hinojosa: Invited to Rays' camp

Hinojosa signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training. Hinojosa, 29, slashed only .244/.284/.357 over 91 games at Triple-A Jacksonville in the Marlins organization last season. The utility infielder has yet to make an appearance in the majors and figures to operate primarily as organizational filler for Tampa Bay.

  • Padres' C.J. Hinojosa: Invited to Padres camp

Hinojosa was invited to the Padres' major-league spring training Sunday. Hinojosa elected free agency in early November after spending the 2021 campaign in the Astros' minor-league system, and he'll now serve as a non-roster invitee this spring. He made 104 appearances at Triple-A Sugar Land and slashed .316/.351/.481 with 11 homers, 68 runs, 67 RBI and four stolen bases, and he should be in the mix to make his major-league debut at some point in 2022 if he continues to perform well in the minors.

  • Astros' C.J. Hinojosa: Finds home in new organization

Hinojosa agreed Monday with the Astros on a minor-league contract, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Hinojosa was most recently a member of the Brewers organization, slashing .280/.338/.400 across 460 plate appearances at Double-A Biloxi in 2019 before he was released last summer. The 26-year-old infielder will likely begin the 2021 campaign with Houston's Double-A affiliate in Corpus Christi.

  • C.J. Hinojosa: Cut by Milwaukee

The Brewers released Hinojosa on Tuesday, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports. Acquired by Milwaukee last March in a deal that sent catcher Erik Kratz to San Francisco, Hinojosa spent the entire 2019 campaign at Double-A Biloxi, slashing .280/.338/.400 over 460 plate appearances. With the 2020 minor-league season in jeopardy and the 25-year-old Hinojosa not viewed as a major part of the organization's long-term plan, Milwaukee opted to cut him loose to save money.

  • Giants' C.J. Hinojosa: Returns for Double-A Richmond

Hinojosa (quadriceps) came off the 7-day DL this week for Double-A Richmond. He is 2-for-9 with one strikeout, one walk and three RBI through two games. The 22-year-old middle infielder has posted solid lines in the Northwest League in 2015 and in the California League in 2016, but his bat has yet to come alive at Double-A. He profiles as a potential utility infielder down the road.

  • Giants' C.J. Hinojosa: Held back with quad injury

Hinojosa, 22, was held back in extended spring training as he works his way back from a quad injury, MLB.com's Mike Rosenbaum reports. A fringe prospect whose realistic ceiling is likely that of a utility infielder, Hinojosa posted a .296/.378/.442 slash line at High-A last year, but he struggled (.248/.312/.336) after a promotion to Double-A. Look for him to head back to Richmond once healthy.
