Tovar went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Saturday against the Royals. Tovar has shown significant signs of improvement across the last 15 games, maintaining a .346 average with four RBI and eight runs scored. Positively, he's hit well on the road in that span by going 11-for-30 across eight contests. Tovar has also picked up his stolen base production of late, recording two of his three stolen bases on the season in his last eight starts.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Homers Thursday

Tovar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. The homer was Tovar's first since May 16, though it was his fifth extra-base hit in his last five games. After a slow start to the season, the rookie shortstop had a solid May, batting .266 with a .767 OPS over 27 games. Tovar is now slashing .241/.286/.396 with four home runs, 26 runs scored, 23 RBI and two stolen bases through 199 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Batting second Wednesday

Tovar is hitting second Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Tovar has mostly batted at or near the bottom of the Rockies' lineup this season, but he'll get a boost to the No. 2 spot amid the most promising offensive stretch of his young career. The 21-year-old shortstop has slashed .368/.415/.526 over his last 41 plate appearances dating back to May 20.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Another multi-hit effort

Tovar went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. Tovar had himself an excellent night at the plate but didn't have much to show for it, as each one of his hits came with nobody on base. The 21-year-old now has four doubles over his last three games and is tied for the fifth-most doubles in the National League with 15. He's tallied at least one base knock in 10 of his last 11 games, but even after his recent hot stretch, Tovar is slashing just .244/.288/.389 with three homers, 22 RBI, 25 runs and a 9:54 BB:K over 191 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Logs stolen base

Tovar went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Mets. Tovar has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, though this was his first steal in that span. While his bat has been solid, he has just one RBI and four runs scored in that stretch, though it's tough to make an impact from the bottom of the lineup. The shortstop is slashing a modest .226/.274/.357 with two steals, three home runs, 20 RBI and 23 runs scored through 49 contests, and a 28.5 percent strikeout rate isn't helping his cause.

Tovar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Alan Trejo will check in at shortstop for the rookie.

After showing signs of life at the plate, Tovar has gone only 3-for-28 with four RBI and three runs scored while striking out at a 41.4 percent clip across his last eight games. He's had an inconsistent start to his first full season in the majors, hitting only .216/.259/.360 across 147 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Swipes first bag

Tovar went 0-for-4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base Wednesday against the Pirates. Tovar finished Colorado's series at Pittsburgh 0-for-11, but he still found ways to be productive. On Wednesday, he drew a walk to start the fourth inning before stealing second base and coming around to score. Tovar's overall numbers are still poor, but he's gone 14-for-54 with two home runs, 11 RBI, and 12 runs scored across his last 15 games.

His sixth-inning shot off Stephen Nogosek capped the scoring for the Rockies on the day. Tovar has found a groove at the plate after a tough first few weeks of 2023, and over his last 12 games the 21-year-old shortstop is batting .333 (14-for-42) with four doubles, a triple and both his homers on the year, along with nine runs and nine RBI.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Seven-game hitting streak

Tovar went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Brewers. Tovar delivered a two-RBI double in the seventh inning to start a late rally for the Rockies. The performance extended his hitting streak to seven games, during which he has gone 8-for-24 with a home run, four RBI and five runs scored in that span. He has benefitted from a lengthy homestand -- only one of those seven games has been on the road -- but he has still quietly improved his season-long line in recent weeks.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Slugs first homer

Tovar went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Brewers. Tovar cranked a Freddy Peralta fastball 460 feet in the third inning to start the scoring. It was the shortstop's first home run of the season and second of his career. The 21-year-old is off to a slow start, slashing .217/.265/.337. Adding to the disappointment, Tovar has yet to pick up his first career big-league steal after swiping 74 bags across four seasons in the minors.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Glimpses of improvement

Tovar went 1-for-4 with two RBI on Monday against the Guardians. Tovar delivered a two-RBI single in the fourth inning to put the Rockies up 3-0. That was his lone hit of the game, but he did not strike out for the first time in his last five starts. Tovar is riding a very modest two-game hitting streak, but that's a positive sign after he went just 2-for-24 with a 34.5 percent strikeout rate across his prior eight games. Overall, he's hitting .194 with seven RBI and four extra-base hits across 77 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Another hitless performance

Tovar went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Thursday against the Phillies. Tovar turned in his fifth hitless performance in his last seven games, and he's also struck out multiple times in three of those contests. He's only been out of the lineup twice in 20 matchups this season, so the Rockies are giving him time to work through his struggles at the plate. Particularly given Tovar's lack of experience in the upper minors, it's not overly surprising that he's had to make a significant adjustment to major-league pitching. Even so, he'll have to improve on his .180/.242/.246 line to maintain an everyday role for the rest of the campaign.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Gets Monday off

Tovar is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Tovar secured the Rockies' everyday shortstop job coming out of spring training and started in all four games of the team's season-opening series in San Diego, going 2-for-15 with no walks and six strikeouts in those contests. Despite Tovar's underwhelming series against the Padres, he should still have a decent amount of leash in a regular role. Alan Trejo will spell Tovar in Monday's contest, however.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Swats first big-league homer

Tovar went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday. Tovar's first major-league long ball was a memorable one, as it came off future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw. The 405-foot solo shot accounted for Colorado's only run of the game and was one of the team's two hits. Tovar slashed just .212/.257/.333 over nine contests in his first major-league cup of tea, but he batted .319 with 14 homers and 17 stolen bases in the minors this season and figures to be a big part of the Rockies' future plans.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Steps out of lineup

Tovar is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. The 21-year-old started the past four games after he was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque last week, and he'll take a seat with Jose Iglesias (thumb) back from the injured list. Tovar should still see plenty of playing time over the final week of the season, and he's 4-for-14 with two walks and a run scored through his first four big-league contests.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Active, not in Thursday's lineup

Tovar was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. He is not in Thursday's lineup but could be available off the bench. Tovar should play pretty regularly down the stretch given the Rockies view him as the shortstop of the future. He hit .316/.384/.537 with 14 home runs and 17 steals in 71 games between Double-A and Triple-A.
