  Cabrera struck out three batters across two perfect innings in Friday's Cactus League game against the Guardians. Making his spring training debut for the Cubs after getting traded over to the team in January, Cabrera looked sharp as he didn't allow any baserunners over his two innings of work. The righty can miss plenty of bats, as evidenced by his career 10.0 K/9, but he also has struggled with control at times and has a career 4.5 BB/9. Cabrera did manage a career-best 3.1 BB/9 in 2025 for the Marlins to go along with a 3.53 ERA, which was down from the 4.95 ERA he posted a year earlier. If the 27-year-old righty can continue to limit walks, he could be in store for a strong first season in Chicago.

  Marlins manager Clayton McCullough confirmed that Cabrera (elbow) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game in Philadelphia, MLB.com reports. Cabrera looked to be at risk of missing the rest of the season after he was placed on the IL on Sept. 1 due to a right elbow sprain, but he ramped up quickly during his throwing program and now has a chance to make two starts in the final week of the 2025 campaign. Though he didn't head out on a minor-league rehab assignment while he's been on the shelf, Cabrera was able to build up to 50 pitches in a simulated game last Wednesday and reportedly touched 97 miles per hour with his fastball. He'll likely be operating on a limited pitch count Tuesday, though if he's able to retire Phillies batters in efficient fashion, he could reach the five innings he would need to hit to qualify for a win.

Because he hasn't been shelved for a prolonged period, Cabrera should have sufficient time to get stretched back out for a starting role, provided he experiences no hiccups during the buildup process.
