• Guardians' Connor Brogdon: Picks up save Saturday

  Brogdon earned a save against Seattle on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out two batters in one inning. Closer Cade Smith blew a save opportunity in the ninth frame, pushing the game into bonus time. Cleveland struck for three runs in the top of the 10th, and the Guardians chose to turn to Brogdon in the bottom of that frame. The right-hander made things interesting by serving up a two-run homer to Luke Raley, but Brogdon was able to convert the save by striking out the subsequent two batters he faced. Fantasy managers need not read into Brogdon's chance to close Saturday, as Smith isn't likely to move out of the closer role anytime soon.

• Guardians' Connor Brogdon: Grabs MLB deal from Guardians

Brogdon made 43 appearances for the Angels in 2025, putting up a 5.55 ERA and 49:18 K:BB over 47 innings. Slated to turn 31 next month, Brogdon hasn't had much success at the big-league level since 2022, but the Guardians felt the right-handed reliever was worthy of a major-league deal. Brogdon will have an additional year of arbitration eligibility in 2027.

The contest was tight throughout, and Brogdon helped preserve a 3-3 tie when he breezed through a 1-2-3 frame in the seventh. The right-hander was blown up for four runs over two-thirds of an inning in his third appearance of the campaign May 11, but he hasn't given up an earned run in any of his seven appearances since. Brogdon entered in the ninth inning with Philadelphia up by two runs and immediately allowed the lead to be halved on a Jacob Stallings solo homer. He surrendered a single to the next batter but rebounded to retire the next three Marlins and secure the save. Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) is on the injured list and David Robertson threw 65 pitches over the past three days, which explains why Brogdon -- who had only one save coming into Wednesday -- was called upon to close. He isn't likely to see many more save opportunities moving forward.

  Brogdon struck out one in a perfect 10th inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Pirates. Brad Hand worked the seventh inning and Seranthony Dominguez the ninth, leaving Brogdon to protect the lead the Phillies claimed in the top of the 10th. The right-hander didn't disappoint and needed only eight pitches (seven strikes) to breeze through the top of the Pirates' order. Brogdon has been one of the most reliable arms in the Philadelphia bullpen of late despite spending time on the COVID-19 list, posting a 1.42 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 12:0 K:BB through 12.2 innings since the beginning of June with two wins and three holds, in addition to Friday's save.

  Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Brogdon is scheduled to make his third Grapefruit League appearance Wednesday against the Tigers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Brogdon reported to camp with a clean bill of health after finishing the 2021 campaign on the injured list with a groin issue, but he hasn't looked particularly sharp in his limited spring action to date. Over two relief appearances, Brogdon has given up two earned runs on two hits and four walks across 1.1 innings, with Zolecki noting that the right-hander's average fastball velocity has been down a few ticks from his 2021 average of 96 miles per hour. The Phillies haven't suggested that Brogdon is dealing with any sort of physical issue, but his poor form so far this spring might mean that he'll have to settle for lower-leverage work when the regular season begins.
