Player Outlook
RJ Schreck is a big-league ready corner outfielder, but he is not on Toronto's 40-man roster and doesn't have a clear path to playing time heading into 2026. One reason the Jays aren't factoring him into their short-term plans is that he's average to fringe-average defensively in a corner, so he'd need to be 10-15 percent better than league average to get consistent run in the majors. He logged a 166 wRC+ in a return to Double-A as a 24-year-old and slashed .242/.392/.435 with nine home runs, a 16.2 percent walk rate, a 20.9 percent strikeout rate and a 129 wRC+ in 58 games at Triple-A while being a bit old for the level. A lefty hitter, Schreck might end up with an above-average or better hit tool and could be capable of facing opposite-handed pitching (.808 OPS vs. LHP in 2025) in his prime, although he would likely break in as a platoon player. He stole nine bases in 105 games in the minors last year and any stolen bases in the majors should be considered a bonus.

  • Blue Jays' RJ Schreck: Rejoins Triple-A lineup

Schreck (hand) has gone 2-for-8 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run in two games for Triple-A Buffalo since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Friday. The 25-year-old outfielder spent about a month on Buffalo's IL while recovering from the hand injury. Since receiving a promotion from Double-A New Hampshire in early June, Schreck has put together a .235/.350/.529 slash line with three home runs over 40 plate appearances for Buffalo.

  • Blue Jays' RJ Schreck: Working back from injury

Triple-A Buffalo placed Schreck on its 7-day injured list June 19 due to an apparent hand injury, Zach Worden of Sportsnet.ca reports. Schreck was removed from a June 17 game after being hit on the hand by a pitch before Buffalo placed him on its IL two days later. The outfielder looks on track to rejoin Buffalo shortly after the All-Star break, as he had appeared in four rehab games between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Dunedin last week. Before getting shut down at Buffalo, Schreck hit .231 with two home runs in his first nine games at the Triple-A level after receiving a promotion from Double-A New Hampshire on June 4.
