Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia: Won't require surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Pedroia (knee) will not need surgery this offseason, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Instead, Pedroia -- who was limited to just three games in 2018 due to lingering left knee inflammation -- will continue rehabbing through the middle of December before ramping up his activities from there. The veteran second baseman is expected to start running in January, and if all goes well, the hope if that he'll bet ready for the start of the 2019 campaign.

Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia: Future remains uncertain
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the club is "hopeful Pedroia (knee) will be ready" for spring training but admitted that he's unsure at this point, Jason Mastrodonato of The Boston Herald reports.

Pedroia only managed to play in three games for the Red Sox this season due to lingering left knee inflammation. He initially tried to return in May -- which is when he played in three contests over a four-day span -- following knee surgery in October of 2017, but then immediately suffered a setback and underwent another procedure in July to remove scar tissue. Manager Alex Cora stated in September that there wasn't enough time for Pedroia to get back into game shape and record meaningful at-bats since the minor-league season was coming to a close, which took the second baseman out of the running for a spot on the postseason roster.

Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia: Not returning in 2018
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Alex Cora said Pedroia (knee) will not come back this season. He added that Pedroia underwent an arthroscopic surgery in late July to clean up some scar tissue, which obviously contributed to his inability to recover in time to play for Boston in 2018, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Cora went on to say that it just came down to Pedroia "running out of time," but that the second baseman is okay with the decision and "will be ready for next year, no doubt about it." The previously unreported procedure forced Pedroia to essentially pause his rehab for a few weeks before resuming activities in Arizona in mid-August. He was able to start hitting and fielding during that time, but Cora noted that without the opportunity of rehabbing in minor-league games, there just wasn't a chance for Pedroia to come back and be a contributor in 2018. This will allow him to ease his way back from this surgery and return to 100 percent by spring training.

Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia: Making strides in rehab
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Pedroia (knee) is continuing to rehab in Arizona and is said to be making strides in his rehab, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

While it sounds like his condition is improving, Pedroia remains without a timetable to resume baseball activities and appears unlikely to be a contributor for the Red Sox in September. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski stated back on July 30 that he doesn't anticipate Pedroia will play again in 2018, though the team hasn't officially ruled out a return for the four-time All-Star.

Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia: Moved to 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Pedroia (knee) was shifted to the 60-day DL on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

This doesn't impact Pedroia's timetable since he's already spent over 60 days on the DL due to a left knee injury. His status for the rest of the year remains murky, so he should be considered out indefinitely for the time being. In a corresponding move, Ian Kinsler (hamstring) was put on the 10-day disabled list and Tony Renda was added to the active roster.
