Top Marlins News

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Swipes bag in win

Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies.

Ramirez reached base in three straight plate appearances after grounding out in the first inning, picking up his first steal of the season in the third. The sophomore catcher served as the designated hitter Saturday, suggesting he should see near-everyday run moving forward. After tallying 21 home runs and 16 stolen bases across 136 games as a rookie, the 24-year-old offers 20-20 potential at the catcher position in 2026.

  • Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Notches second save

Fairbanks earned the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Fairbanks was called on to protect a one-run lead in the ninth and needed just nine pitches to do so. He could be unavailable after notching saves on back-to-back nights, but the 32-year-old appears to have a firm grip on the closer's role following a strong start with his new club.

  • Marlins' Eury Perez: Goes seven strong in season debut

Perez did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Perez surrendered two home runs but was otherwise effective, throwing 59 of 93 pitches for strikes and generating 17 whiffs. According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, it marked just the third time in 40 outings that the 22-year-old reached the seventh frame. The breakout candidate posted a 4.25 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 105:32 K:BB across 95.1 innings last season and flashed his upside Saturday. He'll face a tougher test on the road against the Yankees next weekend.

  • Marlins' Christopher Morel: Placed on injured list

The Marlins placed Morel on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain, retroactive to Wednesday.

Morel was in line to begin the regular season as Miami's primary first baseman, but an oblique issue caused him to be a late scratch from Friday's lineup, and manager Clayton McCullough said Saturday that Morel's injury will force him to miss roughly 4-to-6 weeks, per Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com. Deyvison De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and figures to be in the mix at first base with Connor Norby until Morel returns.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Nabs hold Friday

Nardi gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning to record his first hold of the season in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Entering the game to begin the eighth inning and tasked with protecting a 2-1 lead, Nardi gave up a single to Kyle Karros but fanned Braxton Fulford and Ryan Ritter before ceding the mound to Anthony Bender. It was Nardi's first big-league game action since August 2024, as back trouble cost him all of 2025, but it looks like the 27-year-old will be the top left-handed setup option in the Marlins' bullpen to kick off the current campaign.

  • Marlins' Deyvison De Los Santos: Officially promoted

The Marlins recalled De Los Santos from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.

With Christopher Morel (oblique) headed for the IL, De Los Santos will come up from the minors for his MLB debut and could take over as Miami's primary first baseman, though the Marlins may also continue to start Connor Norby at first. The 22-year-old De Los Santos slashed .240/.309/.356 with 11 homers, 52 RBI and 53 runs scored with Jacksonville last year but started 2026 on the right track, going 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in the Triple-A opener.

  • Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Three hits in Friday's start

Sanoja went 3-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Getting the start at third base and batting ninth, Sanoja consistently flipped the lineup over in a 2-1 victory. The 23-year-old utility player was in the lineup against a left-hander in Kyle Freeland, and he could work as a platoon partner for Graham Pauley at the hot corner in the short term while Connor Norby covers for Christopher Morel (oblique) at first base. Pauley missed most of training camp due to a forearm strain, but he was able to enter Friday's game as a late-inning defensive replacement, bumping Sanoja out to left field.

  • Marlins' Owen Caissie: Contributes in Miami debut

Caissie went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Starting at DH and batting eighth against southpaw Kyle Freeland, Caissie got the Marlins on the board in his debut for the team with an RBI double in the second inning. Caissie also struck out twice, however, and his ability to make consistent contact against big-league pitching is still the biggest question mark in his profile. The 23-year-old old, acquired from the Cubs in the offseason, has nothing left to prove in the minors after slashing .281/.379/.505 with 41 homers in 226 games at Triple-A Iowa over the last two seasons.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Two hits in Friday's win

Norby went 2-for-3 with a double in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Getting a surprise start at first base and batting fifth, Norby got his 2026 off to a solid start. With Christopher Morel (oblique) potentially headed to the IL, Norby could be set for regular playing time at first base in the short term. The 25-year-old is looking to establish himself after managing a .251/.300/.389 slash line with eight homers and eight steals in 88 games during an injury-plagued 2025.

  • Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Bags first save with Miami

Fairbanks gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Rockies.

The Marlins' new closer allowed a one-out single to T.J. Rumfield, but he induced weak contact from Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle to end the night. Fairbanks racked up 75 saves over the last three seasons for the Rays before inking a one-year, $13 million deal with the Marlins in December, and his ability to stay healthy might be the only thing standing between him and his first career 30-save campaign.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Sharp in win over Rockies

Alcantara (1-0) allowed an unearned run on four hits and two walks over seven innings in Friday's 2-1 win over Colorado. He struck out five.

The veteran right-hander didn't give up an extra-base hit in an impressive effort to begin the season, firing 49 of 73 pitches for strikes. Alcantara struggled early last season in his return from Tommy John surgery, but he seemed to turn a corner in August, posting a 2.68 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB over his final eight starts and 53.2 innings in 2025. He seems to have carried that form into 2026, and his next outing lines up to be a clash with the White Sox at home next week.

  • Marlins' Deyvison De Los Santos: Joining big club

The Marlins are expected to recall De Los Santos from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

De Los Santos failed to make the Opening Day roster after going 4-for-14 in the Grapefruit League, but he's now due to join the big club one game into the Marlins' season. His call-up could indicate a trip to the IL is coming for Christopher Morel, who was scratched from Thursday's lineup with an oblique strain. If that's the case, De Los Santos may make a few starts at first base in Miami.

  • Marlins' Owen Caissie: Late addition to lineup

Caissie will bat eighth and DH during Friday's game against the Rockies.

Caissie was left off the initial lineup due to the same-handed matchup against southpaw Kyle Freeland. However, Caissie will join the starting nine after Christopher Morel (oblique) was scratched. Connor Norby shifts from DH to first base, opening the DH spot for Caissie, who will be making his Marlins debut.

  • Marlins' Christopher Morel: Scratched with oblique strain

Morel was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies due to a left oblique strain, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Morel is set to undergo further evaluation, after which the Marlins will have more information regarding his status. In the meantime, Connor Norby will fill in as Miami's first baseman while Owen Caissie enters the lineup as the designated hitter.

  • Marlins' Austin Slater: Batting leadoff in opener

Slater will start in right field and bat leadoff in Friday's opener versus the Rockies.

Slater was just signed earlier this week and will immediately be thrown into the leadoff spot as the Marlins take on lefty Kyle Freeland. Slater will serve in a short-side platoon role for Miami.

  • Marlins' Kyle Stowers: Goes through workout Wednesday

Stowers (hamstring) was able to throw, hit and run during a workout Wednesday, and he had no issues afterward, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 28-year-old outfielder is beginning the season on the IL and will be re-evaluated in 3-to-4 weeks, meaning that Stowers will probably need at least a brief rehab assignment before he's ready to make his 2026 debut in late April or early May. If he continues to make good progress in his recovery, however, he could return on the short end of that estimate. The Marlins will miss having Stowers' bat in the lineup after he had a breakout 2025, slugging 25 homers with a .912 OPS in 117 contests.
