  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Season-high 33 minutes

Small finished with 11 points (4-10 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block in 33 minutes during Wednesday's 122-114 loss to the Trail Blazers. A healthy inactive for the Grizzlies' previous game Tuesday in Minnesota, Small was not only back in the rotation, but he started and logged a season-high minutes load. He ended the game with a full stat line and is now averaging 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.8 three-pointers and 1.2 steals over his past 11 appearances. A two-way player, Small is eligible to play in all but one of the Grizzlies' remaining 21 games, so he should be a relatively stable part of the rotation moving forward so long as Memphis remains shorthanded. Expect at least some dip in playing time from what Small received Wednesday, however, as the Grizzlies are likely to get all of Cedric Coward (knee), Scotty Pippen (toe) and Ty Jerome (calf) back for their next game Saturday versus the Clippers.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Starting Wednesday

Small is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup with the Trail Blazers. Small will be joined in the first unit by Jaylen Wells, Rayan Rupert, GG Jackson and Olivier-Maxence Prosper. Through two starts this season, Small has averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 triples and 1.0 steals per game.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Reverting to bench role Sunday

Small is not in the Grizzlies' starting lineup against the Pacers on Sunday, Tony East of Forbes.com reports. The rookie second-rounder made his first NBA start against the Warriors on Wednesday and was in the starting five in Friday's loss to the Mavericks, when he logged nine points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals and one three-pointer over 26 minutes. Small will return to the bench for Sunday's contest while the Grizzlies roll with a starting five of Walter Clayton, Scotty Pippen, GG Jackson, Jaylen Wells and Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Modest line in first NBA start

Small amassed 16 points (6-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and four assists over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 133-112 loss to the Warriors. The rookie second-rounder made his first NBA start Wednesday and put together a nice stat line, finishing as the Grizzlies' third-leading scorer behind GG Jackson (24 points) and Ty Jerome (22 points). Small has seen his minutes increase since late January, though it's unclear whether he'll remain in the starting lineup ahead of the likes of Scotty Pippen and Cam Spencer for as long as Cedric Coward (knee) is sidelined.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Logs career-high 22 points

Small ended with 22 points (7-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 6-6 FT), six rebounds, four assists and one block across 28 minutes during Saturday's 122-115 loss to the Trail Blazers. Ja Morant's (elbow) extended absence has sent ripples through Memphis' rotation, and it's resulted in meaningful minutes for Small off the bench. A turf toe injury stymied Small's league debut earlier in the season, but the team's decision to keep the rookie with the parent club could begin to pay dividends as they navigate a campaign that seems to be the beginning of a rebuild.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Will play Tuesday

Small (toe) is available for Tuesday's game against the Jazz. Small hasn't played since early November due to a left turf toe injury but will return to the lineup Tuesday. With Cedric Coward (heel), Ja Morant (ankle) and several other Memphis players sidelined, Small could see meaningful burn during his return.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Remains out indefinitely

Small (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Portland. Small hasn't been available to play since Nov. 7 due to turf toe, and there remains no clear timetable for his return to action. He can be considered week-to-week moving forward.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: To be re-evaluated in three weeks

Small (toe) will be re-evaluated in three weeks, the Grizzlies announced Saturday. Small has been sidelined since being diagnosed with turf toe back on Nov. 8. Based on this timetable, Small's earliest return date would be Dec. 7 against the Trail Blazers. Small is on a two-way contract and has appeared in eight regular-season games thus far for 12.5 minutes per contest.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Still sidelined

Small (toe) won't play in Saturday's game against Cleveland. Small is battling turf toe on his left foot, and the issue will keep him sidelined for a fourth consecutive game. It's unclear when he'll be able to return to the hardwood, but his absence should have minimal impact on the Grizzlies' rotation. His next chance to play will come Tuesday against San Antonio.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Ruled out for Tuesday

Small (toe) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Knicks. Small will miss his second consecutive contest due to left toe soreness, and his next chance to play will come Wednesday against the Celtics. The rookie second-rounder has seen little playing time of late, so his absence shouldn't cause any significant waves in the rotation.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Sidelined Sunday

Small (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Thunder. Small will be sidelined Sunday due to left toe soreness. The rookie guard logged double-digit minutes in each of the first five games of the season but has seen a reduced role since, so his absence shouldn't significantly impact the Grizzlies' rotation.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Transferred to NBA

The Grizzlies transferred Small from the G League's Memphis Hustle on Monday. Small was previously sent to practice with the Hustle, though he'll rejoin the Grizzlies ahead of Monday's game against the Pistons. The rookie point guard has appeared in six regular-season games so far, averaging 5.3 points and 3.7 assists in 16.0 minutes per contest.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Leads Grizz bench with 16 points

Small tallied 16 points (6-8 FG, 4-5 3Pt), five assists and one rebound during the Grizzlies' 141-125 preseason win over the Heat on Friday. Small reverted to a reserve role in Friday's exhibition contest due to the return of Ty Jerome, though the latter didn't return to the game after injuring his right calf in the first quarter. Small ended up playing 21 minutes and led the bench in scoring while pacing both teams with four three-pointers. The rookie second-rounder has logged at least five assists in each of his four preseason outings and has scored in double-digits in his last two appearances. Small could see some playing time early in the regular season if Jerome and Scotty Pippen (toe) miss time.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Not starting Friday

Small is not in the starting lineup for Friday's exhibition with the Heat. Ty Jerome is back from a rest day, so Small will shift back to the second unit Friday evening. Through three preseason games, Small has contributed averages of 9.0 points, 6.3 assists and 3.7 turnovers per contest in 27.3 minutes a night.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Fares well in loss

Small logged 18 points (6-9 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight assists, four rebounds and one block in 28 minutes of Wednesday's 145-116 preseason loss to Charlotte. The No. 48 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Small drew the start in this contest and was a bright spot for the team. Scotty Pippen has been sidelined by a toe issue, so Small has been getting an extended look in Ja Morant's (ankle) absence. For now, the expectation is that Small will see some reps in the G League to open his professional career, but he's certainly making an impression on the team.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Out of action Monday

Small (personal) is out for Monday's preseason opener against the Pistons, Michael Wallace of the Grizzlies' official site reports. Small is away from the team for personal reasons Monday, but he's expected to rejoin the squad for Wednesday's matchup with Boston. With Ja Morant (ankle) out of the fold, Scotty Pippen and Cam Spencer have an opportunity to make a case for more playing time.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Paces Memphis in SL loss

Small contributed 17 points (5-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five rebounds and five assists over 25 minutes in Thursday's 92-88 Summer League loss to the Hawks. Small led the Grizzlies in scoring Thursday but came up short of securing the win. The No. 48 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft is coming off an impressive senior season at West Virginia, where he posted 18.6 points, 5.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game across 32 appearances.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Sitting out Tuesday

Small (rest) won't play in Tuesday's Summer League game against the 76ers, Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian reports. Small will sit out the second night of the team's back-to-back set. However, the 2025 second-round pick also didn't see the floor in Monday's loss to Utah. His next chance to suit up will come Friday against Boston.

  • Grizzlies' Javon Small: Heading to Memphis

Small was selected by the Grizzlies with the No. 48 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Small was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and was an AP All-American Honorable Mention with 18.6 points, 5.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 36.1 minutes as a senior for West Virginia in the 2024-25 season. Small will add depth to the Grizzlies' backcourt, but he's not expected to see regular minutes as a rookie. His fantasy appeal won't be very high, though he could be a prospect worth keeping close tabs on if he manages to establish himself as a regular in the rotation.
