Broncos' Zac Brooks: Announces retirement
Brooks has filed retirement papers, Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post reports.
A seventh-round selection last year, Brooks was released by the Seahawks prior to Week 1, then joined the Broncos' practice squad in mid-December. He signed a futures contract with Denver after the season, but the Clemson grad ultimately decided against trying to scrape out a career in the NFL.

Broncos' Zac Brooks: Signs future contract with Broncos
Brooks signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos on Tuesday.
Brooks was added to the Broncos' practice squad in mid-December and will now spend the offseason with the team in hopes of holding down a spot on the 53-man roster come September. He was selected by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft but was released just before regular season began.

Zac Brooks: Added to Denver's practice squad
Brooks was added to the Broncos' practice squad on Wednesday, Nicki Jhabvala reports.
Brooks, a Clemson product, was originally picked in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, but ultimately never did catch on with an active roster. With the Broncos dealing with multiple season-ending injuries at the running back position, Brooks may eventually be promoted to the active roster in order to provide depth behind Devontae Booker and veteran Justin Forsett.

Zac Brooks: Departs Seattle
Brooks was released by the Seahawks on Monday, Sheil Kapadia of ESPN reports.
Brooks was drafted in the seventh round of this year's draft and ultimately wasn't able to show the Seattle coaching staff enough to remain on the roster, largely in part to a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for nearly two weeks of the preseason.

Seahawks' Zac Brooks: Returns from hamstring injury
Brooks (hamstring) had two carries for 10 yards and one reception for four yards in Thursday's preseason loss to Minnesota.
A seventh-round rookie, Brooks missed Seattle's first preseason game and was used sparingly Thursday night. His roster odds don't look good, as Thomas Rawls (ankle), Christine Michael and C.J. Prosise (hamstring) are all locks, and fifth-round rookie Alex Collins seems to be far ahead of Brooks.

Seahawks' Zac Brooks: Won't play Saturday
Brooks (hamstring) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Danny O'Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Two of the three Seahawks' rookie running backs have dealt with hamstring injuries in training camp -- C.J. Promise is the other -- but the third, Alex Collins, has impressed thoroughly as both a runner and pass-catcher. Brooks will attempt to return to the competition for slotting behind Thomas Rawls (ankle) and Christine Michael in the near future.

Seahawks' Zac Brooks: Nears return
Brooks (hamstring) is slated to be back on the field in a couple of days, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR reports.
A return to practice will assist Brooks in his quest to secure a role in the Seattle backfield, but with news that projected feature back Thomas Rawls is off the team's PUP list, Brooks' short-term status becomes a less-pressing matter for the Seahakws.

Seahawks' Zac Brooks: Has 'sore' hamstring
Brooks was held out of Thursday's practice due to a "sore" hamstring, Liz Mathews of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Brooks joins a growing list of the injured in Seattle, which includes fellow rookie running back C.J. Prosise (hamstring) and incumbent Thomas Rawls (ankle). With the backfield banged up, Christine Michael and 2016 first-rounder Alex Collins have been receiving valuable training camp reps. Nevertheless, Brooks is a candidate to rejoin them soon, as head coach Pete Carroll noted the he's dealing with mere soreness.

Seahawks' Zac Brooks: No practice Thursday
Brooks (undisclosed) didn't take part in practice Thursday, Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com reports.
Although Marshawn Lynch could be aloof at times, he was a constant for the Seahawks for five-plus seasons, but his retirement forced the organization to search for his long-term replacement. Brooks was among three running backs picked during the 2016 NFL Draft to achieve that end, and the opportunity to land a role in the offense was supplied by Thomas Rawls' ongoing recovery from a broken ankle. With an injury in tow, Brooks joined Rawls and C.J. Prosise (hamstring) as non-participants, giving Christine Michael a near unimpeded run at reps with the first-team offense Thursday.
