McGuire rushed 18 times for 41 yards and added 24 yards on two catches in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Patriots. He finishes the season with 276 yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries, along with 19 catches for 193 yards and a touchdown,
McGuire couldn't find much running room in this season finale, putting an end to the momentum he had built up after inheriting the starting role down the stretch. Isaiah Crowell should be back from his toe injury next season and the Jets could opt for a flashy running back signing using their plentiful cap space, so McGuire should have no shortage of competition for touches in his third campaign.
McGuire rushed 14 times for 35 yards and a touchdown while adding three catches for 50 yards and another score on five targets in Sunday's 44-38 overtime loss to the Packers.
McGuire extended his rushing touchdown streak to three games with a four-yard score in the first quarter and flashed his receiving chops with a 20-yard touchdown late in the third. While his 2.8 yards-per-carry average on 49 attempts over the past three weeks has left a lot to be desired, McGuire's combination of robust volume and goal-line usage since Isaiah Crowell went on injured reserve with a toe injury has made the second-year running back a worthy late-season addition. Expect him to shoulder the majority of the rushing workload against the Patriots in Week 17.
McGuire had 18 carried for 42 yards and a touchdown while catching three of four targets for 29 yards in Saturday's loss to the Texans.
McGuire took over as the top backfield option for the Jets with Isaiah Crowell (toe) on injured reserve, and was unable to find much space to maneuver. The 24-year-old saved fantasy owners with the two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, but the Texans' dominant run defense otherwise prevailed. The good news for McGuire is No. 2 running back Trenton Cannon didn't fare any better with seven carries for 13 yards. The Packers allow 4.6 yards per carry and represent a more favorable matchup next week.
McGuire was already in line to start Saturday against the Texans with Crowell ruled out for Week 15, but with Crowell now out for the season, McGuire is now the favorite to start every game the rest of the way. Fellow running back Trenton Cannon figures to see some work behind McGuire, and pending roster addition De'Angelo Henderson could, too, but McGuire was on the field for 74 percent of the snaps last week, a clear indication he is the preferred option of the trio. McGuire will face a stiff test in his first start of the season Saturday, squaring off against a Houston defense that did not allow opposing running backs to rush for more than 38 rushing yards in any of its last three games.
Meanwhile, the team's top rusher Isaiah Crowell (toe) is out this week and Trenton Cannon (toe) is listed as questionable. In that context, McGuire is a worthy Week 15 dart for those scrambling for backfield help.
