James was not targeted in Monday's 27-23 loss to the Giants.
James made a splash last week with a 60-yard performance against the Raiders, but he was absent from the offensive gameplan against the Giants, even with Pierre Garcon (knee) missing the contest. The speedy wideout has some big-play ability, but he is simply too far down the depth chart to warrant fantasy consideration.
James caught two of three targets for 60 yards in Thursday's 34-3 win over the Raiders.
Trent Taylor was surprisingly a healthy inactive Thursday, allowing James to see his highest involvement in the passing game this season. The fleet-footed rookie, who had logged just one target over the 49ers' previous eight games, did the majority of his damage on a well-timed slant against the blitz that he took up the field for 53 yards. The strong showing could get James more looks down the stretch for a non-contending 49ers squad, but it's too early to trust him as a fantasy option.
James is a coach's decision inactive for Sunday's matchup with Kansas City.
James suited up in Week 2 but didn't see the field. He's a depth receiver and special teams player who's likely inactive due to the overall health of players above him on the depth chart.
James is inactive due to coach's decision for Sunday's game against Minnesota, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
James is near or at the bottom of the 49ers depth chart at wide receiver. With the team mostly healthy for Week 1, he draws the short straw and won't get to suit up. He'll have a better chance to play in the coming weeks when the team faces a few injuries, but he won't likely see much time on offense unless there are injuries to the position group.
James should have a spot on the 53-man roster, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The rookie seventh-round pick caught seven of eight targets for 80 yards in Thursday's exhibition against the Chargers, finishing the preseason with a 15-192-1 receiving line. Taylor's emergence means the 49ers likely likely have just one spot left for either Kendrick Bourne, Aldrick Robinson or Aaron Burbridge (hamstring). At the top of the depth chart, Marquise Goodwin, Pierre Garcon and Trent Taylor are locked in as the regular group for three-wide sets, with Dante Pettis (knee) perhaps getting some chances to mix in. James could be a healthy inactive Week 1 in Minnesota.
