The Broncos signed Hinton to the reserve/future contract Monday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Hinton suited up in just one game for the Broncos. It was unforgettable. The undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest was called up after the entire Broncos' quarterback room went into COVID-19 protocol. Hinton -- who played wide receiver in his final two seasons at college -- logged 24 snaps under center for the Broncos. He enjoyed little success in that appearance, but he'll be a household name in Denver for years to come even if he never plays another game.
Hinton reverted to the Broncos' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Hinton was elevated to the Broncos' active roster Sunday morning as an emergency starting quarterback option. Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID-19 during the practice week, while Denver's other options at the position were ruled out for Week 12 as high-risk close contacts. Having gone without game experience at QB since 2018 during his time at Wake Forest -- and more recently joining Denver's practice squad as a wide receiver Nov. 4 -- Hinton struggled in completing just one of nine attempts against the Saints on Sunday while throwing a pair of interceptions.
Hinton completed one of nine pass attempts for 13 yards, throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions during Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Saints. He also registered seven rushing yards on two carries.
Hinton was put in a near-impossible spot, elevated into the starting quarterback role from the practice squad Saturday after COVID concerns eliminated all of Denver's foreseeable options from the depth chart. Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID-19 this week, while Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles were all unavailable upon being considered high-risk close contacts. Hinton joined Denver's practice squad as a wide receiver Nov. 4, with his most recent in-game quarterbacking experience coming in 2018 during his time at Wake Forest. The Broncos minimized his pass attempts, but Hinton still floated a couple of relatively easy INTs to Janoris Jenkins and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Denver hopes to get Lock back from the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for a Week 13 road trip to Arrowhead Stadium.
Hinton has been elevated to the Broncos' active roster from the team's practice squad.
Per Troy Renck of Denver 7 News, Hinton will draw the start at QB for the Broncos on Sunday, an assignment that arrives as the result of Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles -- who were considered to be high-risk COVID-19 close contacts -- being unavailable for the game, in addition to Jeff Driskel testing positive for COVID-19. Hinton was signed by the team this past April to work as a wide receiver at the pro level, but he did start his college career at Wake Forest as a quarterback before shifting to wideout last season. Given the timing and the unique circumstances in play here, we'd expect the Broncos to employ a run-heavy game plan in Week 12.
Hinton will start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Saints, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
The undrafted rookie is the Broncos' best option at the position following news that their entire quarterback room will need to quarantine after being in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Hinton is officially listed as a wide receiver on the Broncos' practice squad, but he played quarterback for Wake Forest for three seasons before transitioning to wideout in 2018. With limited practice reps at the position, Hinton figures to utilize his legs just as much as his arm. He'll officially be elevated to the active roster Sunday morning.
Hinton is expected to play at quarterback for the Broncos in Sunday's game against the Saints, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Hilton currently resides on the Broncos' practice squad and is officially listed as a wide receiver. However, he played quarterback for Wake Forest for three seasons before transitioning to wideout in 2018. The Broncos are expected to be creative, meaning the rookie likely won't get all of the work at quarterback. Nevertheless, he's an intriguing fantasy option since he's listed as a WR but carries the floor of a QB. He'll need to be activated from the practice squad before Sunday's game.
Hinton is signing with the Broncos' practice squad Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
The undrafted rookie from Wake Forest will hope to impress on the practice squad and work his way up to the 53-man roster. Hinton fits in nicely with Denver's skill position youth movement on offense.
The Broncos waived Hinton on Saturday, Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post reports.
Hinton spent the offseason in Denver, but he wasn't able to show enough to crack the regular-season roster. The undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest put together a breakout campaign in 2019, when he notched 73 catches for 1,001 and four scores.
