After three consecutive stellar outings between Week 3 and Week 5 (15 total receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns), Nelson had his least productive game of the season against a Seattle secondary that ranked No. 6 against the pass coming in. Oakland limps into the bye, but upon re-emerging from the break will be granted a matchup against a Colts' secondary that's allowed 332 passing yards per game over the past three weeks.
Nelson caught all of his four targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Chargers.
Nelson had a five-yard gain on the Raiders' first snap of the game and a one-yard touchdown on their last snap. His four targets placed him fourth on the team in a game that saw Derek Carr attempt 33 passes on just 49 offensive snaps. Nelson will enter Week 6 against Seattle as the owner of a three-game scoring streak, but he's yet to draw more than eight targets in a contest and has reached 50 yards just once in five tries. His recent run of touchdowns may be obscuring the reality that his 173-yard outing against Miami in Week 3 was a massive aberration at this stage of his career.
Nelson caught two of four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 20-19 loss to the Broncos.
Nelson saw just four targets for a second consecutive week despite quarterback Derek Carr completing an impressive 29 of 32 passes, while Amari Cooper led the receiving corps with 10 catches on as many targets for 116 yards. The re-signing of Martavis Bryant also figures to affect Nelson's target share, as the former hauled in four passes for 30 yards of his own Sunday. Jared Cook and Seth Roberts also combined for seven receptions and a touchdown as a handful of offensive weapons continue to impact Nelson's fantasy outlook.
Nelson caught three of four targets for 23 yards in Monday's 33-13, Week 1 loss to the Rams.
Nelson was actually Oakland's most productive wide receiver in his Raiders debut, which shows just how little the team got out of the position in this game. Quarterback Derek Carr couldn't get anything going with his weapons on the outside, instead checking it down to running back Jalen Richard and tight end Jared Cook, who combined for 235 yards on 18 catches.
To make room for Nelson, the Raiders parted ways with Michael Crabtree on Thursday. Nelson, who turns 33 on May 31, saw his production dip in 2017, as he caught 53 passes for 482 yards and six TDs in 15 games. Much of that decline is directly related to the fact that star QB Aaron Rodgers missed the majority of the season. Nelson will now look to prove that he still has something left to offer at this stage of his NFL career, while building chemistry with QB Derek Carr and starting opposite Amari Cooper. While it's going be difficult for Nelson to approach the stellar numbers that he racked up in his prime for Green Bay in tandem with Rodgers, there should be enough volume for him in Oakland to merit fantasy consideration in the context of coach Jon Gruden's offense.
