PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Ollie Bailey scored a career-high 21 points and Quincy Douby added 13 as Rutgers beat pesky Norfolk State 63-58 Saturday at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
Rutgers (4-3) appeared on its way to a double-digit win, but the gritty Spartans (3-5) went on a 12-3 run to cut the Scarlet Knights lead to three at 59-56 with 1:25 left. Marquis Webb then drove the lane to make it a five-point game again and then hit two of four free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Rutgers held a 28-22 lead at the half despite struggling with their shots. They were 12-of-31 from the floor, and Webb's 3-pointer with time running out was the only shot outside of six feet that the Scarlet Knights made the entire half.
The main culprits were Douby, who was 4-for-11 overall and 0-for-7 in 3-point attempts, and Ricky Shields, who missed five 3-point attempts and was 1-of-7 from the floor.
