FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) -Josh Akognon matched his career high with 41 points and Gerard Anderson came off the injured list to add 15 Saturday night as Cal State Fullerton beat Cal State Bakersfield, 87-64, in non-conference action.
Akognon had 21 points in the first half as the Titans blazed to a 52-25 lead by shooting 74 percent from the floor on their way to improving to 5-6 overall and 3-0 at home. Santwon Latunde had 19 points and a game-high 9 rebounds and Terrence Johns added 18 points and 7 boards for the Roadrunners, who fell to 3-7.
Akognon hit all four of his 3-point attempts in the first half and finished 6-for-11 from behind the arc. He made 10 of 20 field goals overall and was 15-for-15 at the foul line in matching his 41-point effort at Hawaii on Nov. 16. Only one other Div. I Titan has scored more than 41 points and its only the second time Bakersfield has given up more than 40 points to one player.
Akognon also shared the team lead with 7 rebounds and had 4 assists.
Bakersfield shot only 34 percent for the game and made only 1 of 12 3-poiners. The Titans finished at 55 percent.
Fullerton used a 9-0 run to open an early 11-3 lead and a 14-2 spurt made it a 30-10 game with 11 minutes to go in the first half. The biggest lead was 32 points.
