Packers' Aaron Banks: Downgraded to questionable
    3h ago

Green Bay downgraded Banks (neck) to questionable for Saturday's game versus the Ravens.

Banks didn't have any designation on the Packers' final practice report of the week Thursday, but it's possible he suffered some setback during the day Friday. If he can't suit up in Week 17, Donovan Jennings may have to step in at left guard against a Baltimore defense that's struggled to rush the passer in 2025.

Rams' Kevin Dotson: Misses practice Friday
    3h ago

Dotson (ankle) did not participate at practice Friday.

Dotson suffered an ankle sprain in Week 16 at Seattle and was carted off the field, so it's not a big surprise he's not back in football shape yet. Unless he makes a remarkable return to practice Saturday, he's trending towards sitting out Monday at Atlanta.

Rams' Alaric Jackson: Unable to practice Friday
    3h ago

Jackson (knee) did not participate at practice Friday.

Jackson dealt with an ankle injury during preparations for Week 16 at Seattle, and now it looks like a knee injury is threatening his availability for Week 17. He'll probably have to return to practice in some capacity Saturday to have any chance of playing Monday at Atlanta.

Raiders' Kolton Miller: Staying on IR
    3h ago

Miller (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Miller was limited in practice all week, and his last chance to play is Week 18 against the Chiefs. The 2018 first-rounder landed on injured reserve in late September after suffering a hairline fracture and high ankle sprain against the Bears in Week 4.

Packers' Kristian Welch: Going to IR
    3h ago

Green Bay placed Welch (ankle) on its injured reserve list Friday.

Welch suffered an ankle injury in Week 16 at Chicago, and it's apparently serious enough that he'll need to go to IR as he recovers. He won't be eligible to return to game action until the NFC Championship Game, if the Packers advance that far.

Falcons' Sam Roberts: Gets go-ahead to practice
    3h ago

Roberts (knee) was officially designated for return to practice from Atlanta's injured reserve list Friday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.

Roberts had been unable to take the field at all since suffering an injury to his leg in Week 10 at Indianapolis, but he was able to participate at practice in a limited capacity Friday. The transaction means Atlanta could activate him to play as soon as Monday versus the Rams, but the team will likely wait to evaluate his activity at practice Saturday before making that call.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Expected to be fully healthy for ST
    8h ago

Tiedemann (elbow) is expected to be fully healthy in time for camp, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Tiedemann missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July of 2024, and he has totaled just 140 innings in the minors since being drafted by Toronto in 2021. Despite that, it was still an easy call for the Blue Jays to add Tiedemann to the 40-man roster in November for Rule 5 protection. While Tiedemann has flashed high upside and is close to full health, Matheson cautions that "even sniffing 100 (innings) feels very unlikely" in 2026 given all the missed time. "Hopefully he's a factor for us in our rotation," GM Ross Atkins said. "That's the plan, but we would be open to him impacting the team in a bulk role or some creative way, depending on how things are going."

Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Inks $86 million contract extension
    1d ago

The Athletics signed Soderstrom to a seven-year, $86 million contract extension Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes a club option for 2033.

The deal buys out at least three free-agent years and can max out at $131 million if Soderstrom reaches all of the escalators in the contract. Soderstrom broke out in 2025 in his first full major-league season, slashing .276/.346/.474 with 25 home runs and 93 RBI. He also learned to play left field on the fly and took to it surprisingly well, finishing as a Gold Glove finalist. Soderstrom will be only 31 in the final year of the contract if the Athletics pick up his option, so it's a deal that is likely to be very team-friendly if he continues his upward trajectory.

    Owen White: Headed to KBO
    2d ago

White signed a one-year contract with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization on Wednesday, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.

White has struggled during his brief stints in the big leagues, allowing 20 earned runs over just 14 innings in his MLB career. He fared a bit better at Triple-A Charlotte in 2025, posting a 4.44 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 81 frames, and he'll now aim to further hone his craft overseas.

Reds' Michael Chavis: Signs minors deal with Reds
    2d ago

Chavis signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Wednesday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

Chavis spent the entirety of 2025 with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate, slashing .291/.350/.547 with 13 homers, 45 RBI and 45 runs scored across 283 plate appearances. The 30-year-old infielder will get a chance to compete for a roster spot during spring camp, but he'll most likely return to the minors to begin the '26 campaign.

Nationals' Matt Mervis: Coming home on minors pact
    2d ago

Mervis signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Mervis, who turns 28 shortly after Opening Day, has a career .165/.238/.322 slash line with 10 home runs, a 7.7 percent walk rate and a 34.5 percent strikeout rate in 261 MLB plate appearances over the past three seasons. He has been worth -1.5 fWAR over that span, in part because he is also a negative defender at first base. Mervis is a native of Washington D.C. and will be competing with players like Jose Tena, Warming Bernabel and Yohandy Morales for opportunities this year if injuries strike the big club.

  • Pete Fairbanks TB RP
Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Lands in Miami on one-year deal
    2d ago

Fairbanks and the Marlins agreed Wednesday on a one-year, $13 million contract, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Tampa Bay declined Fairbanks' $11 million club option for 2026 earlier this offseason, but the reliever ended up securing an extra $2 million after hitting the open market. The deal also includes a $1 million signing bonus and another $1 million in appearance-based incentives, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The Marlins took a committee approach to the closer position in 2025, but Fairbanks' contract should give him some security as the Marlins' preferred ninth-inning man heading into spring training. Though staying healthy has often been an issue for Fairbanks throughout his career, he continued to pitch effectively in his age-31 season in 2025, logging a 2.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 59:18 K:BB while converting 27 of 32 save chances across 60.1 innings with the Rays.

Bailey has been ruled out for the rest of Friday's game against the Pistons due to a left hip flexor strain, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

It's not clear when Bailey sustained the injury, but he will not return for the second half and will end the night with zero points (0-2 FG), two rebounds, one steal and one block over 11 minutes. Brice Sensabaugh, Taylor Hendricks and Walter Clayton are candidates to see more playing time in the second half due to Bailey's injury.

Nembhard notched 18 points (7-13 FG, 4-7 3Pt), eight assists, four rebounds and two steals across 30 minutes in Friday's 140-122 loss to the Celtics.

After shooting just 5-for-16 from the field in Tuesday's blowout loss to Milwaukee, Nembhard bounced back with an efficient shooting performance Friday, albeit in another losing effort. The 25-year-old point guard led Indiana in scoring and knocked down a team-high-tying four triples, matching his season high for the second time in his last five outings. Additionally, he dished out a game-best eight dimes and has recorded at least six assists in three straight contests.

The All-Star forward has scored at least 30 points in 18 of his 28 regular-season appearances, 11 of which have come over his last 12 outings. In eight games since Dec. 2, Brown has averaged 32.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.1 threes and 1.3 steals over 35.2 minutes per game.

Coulibaly came out firing after halftime, scoring 15 of his 21 points over the final two quarters and tying CJ McCollum for the second-most points on the Wizards behind Kyshawn George (23). It was Coulibaly's best scoring performance of the season, and he also tied a season high on the defensive end with three steals. The third-year forward will look to build off that strong performance against the Grizzlies on Sunday.

Hornets' Kon Knueppel: To undergo further testing
    1h ago

Head coach Charles Lee said after Friday's 120-105 win over Orlando that X-rays on Knueppel's right ankle came back negative, and he'll undergo further testing when the team returns to Charlotte, Cody Taylor of USA Today reports.

Knueppel injured his right ankle late in the second quarter and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest, finishing with 16 points (5-7 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes. The rookie first-rounder will be further evaluated ahead of Monday's game against the Bucks in Charlotte, and he can be considered highly questionable for that one until the Hornets provide an update on his status. If the sharpshooter is forced to miss additional time, Sion James and Collin Sexton are candidates for increased roles.

McCollum helped the Wizards jump out to an 11-point lead at halftime by scoring 10 of his 21 points in the second quarter. It was a nice bounce-back effort from the veteran shooting guard, who shot 34.4 percent from the field in the Wizards' two games prior to Friday's win. David Tomasek: Waived unconditionally
    10h ago

Tomasek will be placed on unconditional waivers Sunday for the purpose of terminating his contract with the Oilers.

Tomasek has played 22 games at the NHL level this season, tallying three goals and adding a pair of assists. The 29-year-old inked a one-year deal with Edmonton in April after he managed 24 goals and 57 points in 47 regular-season games with Farjestads of the Swedish Hockey League. He was unable to garner a regular spot with the Oilers this season and is expected to return to Sweden after passing through waivers. The move cannot take effect until Sunday, as the NHL does not allow any transactions during the Christmas break.

Penguins' Ryan Graves: Slips out of lineup

Graves has been scratched for five straight games, including Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs.

Graves lost his place in the lineup when Brett Kulak was acquired from the Oilers. However, Kulak has yet to make much of an impression, and Graves' continued presence on the NHL roster could afford him a chance to get back into action. Graves has been on the NHL roster since Nov. 4, so he'd need waivers to get back to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He's put up one goal, 19 shots on net, 31 blocked shots, 13 hits and a minus-4 rating over 17 appearances.

The 31-year-old Ristolainen is filling a bottom-four role so far, and he's added a plus-1 rating, seven shots on net, eight hits and eight blocked shots. Fantasy managers don't need to roster him unless he gets hot on offense, though he could help in the physical categories in deeper formats.

For the season, he's at five goals, 16 helpers, 53 shots on net, 36 hits, 26 blocked shots, 16 PIM and a plus-3 rating over 35 contests.
