VENUE: Petco Park
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (24-25) at San Diego Padres (31-19).
TIME: Monday, 10:05 p.m. EDT.
After a successful road trip, the San Diego Padres are ready to return to their dominant ways at Petco Park.
The Padres shoot for a franchise record-tying 10th straight victory at home when they begin a season-high 13-game homestand with the opener of a three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers.
San Diego is looking to improve upon a major league-leading 16-4 mark at home. The Padres have won 10 straight home games on three previous occasions, the last coming in 1999, when they were still at Qualcomm Stadium.
San Diego completed a 6-3 road trip with a 9-6 win at San Francisco on Sunday, and have won four in a row overall.
Brian Giles went 4-for-5 on Sunday to complete a torrid trip. Giles batted .361 (13-for-36) with nine runs scored and eight RBIs over the last nine games.
"When you play like this, you're doing everything right," Giles said. "We're getting big hits. We're playing defense. We're making the routine plays, then we're making some great plays."
The Padres are 20-6 in May to set a team record for wins in a month.
"Maybe people will start saying we're a good team," San Diego first baseman Phil Nevin said. "That's what we believe. We believe we can win every day."
Dave Roberts also had a productive road trip, batting .500 (13-for-26) with seven runs scored. Roberts is batting .478 (11-for-23) with runners in scoring position this season.
"There's still a long way to go," Roberts said. "But all the elements are there. There are no weaknesses on this team. If we do everything we should do, we should be able to win this division."
Milwaukee suffered a second straight loss, 2-1 to Houston on Sunday to cap a 4-2 homestand. The Brewers managed only six hits, with only one from the final six spots of their batting order.
Bill Hall went 0-for-3 on Sunday to end a nine-game hitting streak in his first start at third base for the Brewers. Hall, who is hitting .368 (14-for-38) over the last 10 games, made his previous 27 starts at shortstop and second base.
"He's so versatile," Milwaukee manager Ned Yost said. "He can play any infield position."
Milwaukee has lost seven of its last nine road games, scoring only 26 runs in that stretch.
