SAN DIEGO -- Five San Francisco Giants players homered against the San Diego Padres. Barry Bonds wasn't among them, even though the game was at one of his favorite ballparks.

"It's kind of strange that Barry didn't hit any," manager Felipe Alou said after the Giants scored all their runs on homers in an 8-3 win over the Padres on Tuesday night.

Marquis Grissom hit his 200th homer as he and J.T. Snow had two-run homers in the seventh inning off reliever Luther Hackman. Edgardo Alfonzo hit a two-run shot off Mike Bynum in the ninth. Yorvit Torrealba and Rich Aurilia had solo homers, both off rookie starter Ben Howard.

"The long ball came back today," Alou said.

The five homers tied a season high for the Giants, who also did it against San Diego at San Francisco on April 7. The Giants are 10-3 vs. the Padres this season.

"We just made way too many mistakes as a staff," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. "Any time you give up five home runs it means some bad pitches."

Bonds, who leads the NL with 40 homers, singled twice and walked three times, one intentional, and was aboard for the homers by Grissom and Alfonzo.

Bonds has two more games to try to add to his total of 39 homers at Qualcomm Stadium, which the Padres are vacating at season's end for a new downtown ballpark. The 39 are his most at any road park, and the most by a visiting player in San Diego.

Rookie Kevin Correia (2-1) got the win in his first career start against his hometown team. He allowed one run and four hits in five innings, struck out three and walked four in his fourth major league start.

"I didn't throw as well as I could have, but I got out of here with a win," Correia said. "That's all you can really ask for. This being my hometown, I'm glad I was thrown in the first game, get it over with."

And he was glad the Giants hit all those homers.

"To have run support like that takes a lot of pressure off you," he said.

Grissom homered with two outs in the seventh to give the Giants a 6-1 lead. It was his 17th, and Bonds was on base after his third straight walk. Snow homered to right-center with no outs and Eric Young aboard on a leadoff single.

San Diego closed the gap in the eighth on Gary Matthews Jr.'s infield single and pinch-hitter Miguel Ojeda's sacrifice fly.

With Bonds aboard on a leadoff single in the ninth, Alfonzo hit his eighth.

Howard (1-1) allowed leadoff homers by Torrealba in the third and Aurilia in the fourth. It was the 12th for Aurilia and third for Torrealba, who started at catcher after Benito Santiago was scratched minutes before the first pitch with the flu.

"It's unfortunate that I made those two bad pitches and they made me pay for it," Howard said.

Torrealba's homer gave the Giants a 1-0 lead. San Diego tied it on rookie Humberto Quintero's single, which gave him his first big league RBI.

Howard, coming off his first major league win -- 6-1 against Arizona a week earlier -- struck out to end the fourth after Correia walked the bases full.

Notes

Padres reliever Trevor Hoffman was to have pitched an inning Tuesday night but was thrown off his routine because of Monday's off day, so he'll pitch an inning Wednesday night. Hoffman has pitched two scoreless innings in two appearances since his return Sept. 2. He missed the season's first five months while rehabbing from two offseason surgeries. Bochy planned to have Hoffman pitch one inning in each of his first three appearances, every third game. ... The Giants activated RHP Dustin Hermanson from the 15-day disabled list. Hermanson was put on the DL on Aug. 30, retroactive to Aug. 24, with a strained back muscle. He is 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA and one save.
