SAN DIEGO -- The Milwaukee Brewers made themselves at home in their first game at Petco Park, just like most visitors to San Diego this season.

Geoff Jenkins had two RBI doubles, and three pitchers combined on a five-hitter to lead the Brewers to a 3-1 win over the Padres on Friday night.

The first four of the Brewers' eight hits went for extra bases in the spacious downtown ballpark. The Padres, who've struggled at home, have been outscored 18-5 in the first four games of a six-game homestand, including three losses.

Petco Park played to the Brewers' strengths.

"It's kind of a pitcher's park and we've been pitching well," manager Ned Yost said. "And we don't have mashers, anyway. We've got guys who drive the gaps. So it plays into our game a little bit."

Victor Santos (3-2) got the win five days after losing to the Padres in Milwaukee. He and two relievers held the top five batters in the Padres' order to just one hit -- an infield single by cleanup hitter Phil Nevin in the fourth inning.

After Mike Adams threw one-hit ball for three scoreless innings, including retiring seven straight batters, Dan Kolb pitched the ninth for his 15th save in 16 opportunities.

"Our pitchers have been doing such a good job," Jenkins said. "We've been getting some key hits. We haven't clicked offensively as a team since the first couple of weeks. We've been doing little things to win ballgames. "

Jenkins, bumped up in the order from cleanup to No. 3, doubled in a two-run third inning and again in the fifth.

Gary Bennett, the Padres' catcher last year, walked leading off the third and scored with two outs when Craig Counsell sliced a ball to left field that went for a triple when Terrence Long misplayed the carom off the padded wall down the line.

The Brewers took a 2-1 lead when Jenkins followed with a double off the front of the short porch in right, with the ball rattling around a bit before Brian Giles could track it down.

Jenkins gave the Brewers a 3-1 lead in the fifth when his ground-rule double brought in Counsell, who reached on first baseman Nevin's two-base error with two outs. Giles got a late jump on Jenkins' fly ball, which bounced over the wall.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the Padres are pressing.

"It's hard to do what we've done since we've been home here -- one run a game except for when we went extra innings," he said, referring to a 2-1 win in 10 innings against Colorado on Wednesday.

"With this lineup, it's tough to do," Bochy said. "We're a better hitting club than this. Going through something like it, it's gotten a bit contagious. We're pressing and trying a little too hard."

Nevin went 1-for-4 with an infield single.

"This is our home and we have to figure out a way to hit here," Nevin said. "There's no way around it. Obviously, one run a night isn't going to cut it."

Santos walked Long with two outs in the second and hit Ramon Hernandez in the shoulder with a pitch before allowing rookie Khalil Greene's RBI single.

Santos left after throwing 84 pitches in five innings, allowing one run and three hits wile walking four and striking out three.

Dennis Tankersley (0-2) lost for the second time since being recalled from Triple-A Portland, both to the Brewers. Tankersley allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, in 6 1/3 innings, with five strikeouts and three walks.

He lost 4-3 at Milwaukee on Saturday, when he allowed only three hits in six innings but was hurt by three unearned runs.

Notes

San Diego's Sean Burroughs was a late scratch with a stomach virus. Jeff Cirillo replaced Burroughs at 3B and in the leadoff spot. ... LHP David Wells is scheduled to come off the disabled list and start Tuesday at Boston, meaning he'll also be scheduled to start June 13 at Yankee Stadium. Wells spurned the Yankees' offer of a minor-league contract to sign with his hometown Padres on Dec. 31. ... Lyle Overbay, bumped up one spot in the Brewers' lineup to cleanup, doubled in his first at-bat and walked in his final four plate appearances.
