ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Angels manager Mike Scioscia watched the game on TV in the clubhouse, frustrated at times -- and very happy at the end.

With Scioscia serving a one-game suspension Friday night, Los Angeles Angels rallied to tie the Florida Marlins with an unearned run in the ninth inning, then won 3-2 on Jeff DaVanon's RBI single in the 11th.

"You're thinking the whole game like you're managing, but there's nothing you can do," said Scioscia, suspended earlier in the day for his shouting match with Washington manager Frank Robinson this week. "It's frustrating, but it's exhilarating when you get a hit like that."

DaVanon, who entered as a pinch-runner two innings earlier, hit a sharp single to right-center off Jim Mecir with one out and a 3-2 count.

"He had a great at-bat," said Joe Maddon, the Angels' bench coach who filled in for Scioscia.

DaVanon, batting just .226 this year, said: "He threw me a lot of screwballs, and he got one up and I hit it."

Vladimir Guerrero greeted Mecir with a single leading off the 11th. After Garret Anderson flied out to the warning track in center, Mecir (1-2) hit Steve Finley with a pitch.

Los Angeles' Scot Shields (6-4) pitched a scoreless 11th inning.

The Angels tied it at 2 -- and spoiled a fine pitching performance by the Marlins' Brian Moehler -- with the unearned run in the ninth.

Anderson doubled leading off, moved to second on Finley's perfect sacrifice bunt, then scored on shortstop Alex Gonzalez's throwing error.

With the infield drawn in, Bengie Molina hit a hard grounder to Gonzalez, who whirled to his right and made a good stop. Although he had plenty of time to make the throw, he rushed it and the ball sailed wide of catcher Paul Lo Duca.

Moehler didn't blame Gonzalez's error for the loss.

"That didn't beat us. If I make a little better pitch inside to Anderson, he's out. But it just caught too much of the plate," Moehler said.

Florida manager Jack McKeon said Gonzalez doesn't make many errors, "but it seems like recently, every time he's made one, it was costly."

The Marlins' shortstop has made nine errors this year. He made 16 each of the past two seasons.

Moehler, again lacking offensive support, is winless in his last seven starts. He gave up two runs, one earned, and eight hits in 8 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked none.

Miguel Cabrera's 12th homer, a two-run shot off Jarrod Washburn in the third inning, gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead that Moehler held until the ninth.

The game matching 2003 World Series champion Florida against the 2002 champion Angels was the Marlins' first in Anaheim, and their first in an AL park this year.

Los Angeles reliever Brendan Donnelly was suspended 10 days Friday for having pine tar on his glove in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals. But he appealed the suspension and can pitch until the appeal is heard. He worked a scoreless ninth against the Marlins.

Scioscia drew his suspension after screaming at Robinson when the Nationals' manager asked the umpires to check Donnelly's glove.

Chone Figgins led off this game with a home run for the Angels, his fifth. Moehler then retired 12 of 13 batters until Anderson's double.

Washburn allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked three.

Angels 1B Darin Erstad singled in the eighth to extend his career-high hitting streak to 17 games. ... After the game, the Angels activated INF Maicer Izturis and optioned INF Robb Quinlan to Triple-A Salt Lake. ... Florida RHP Josh Beckett was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, because of a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The Marlins recalled RHP Nate Bump from Triple-A Albuquerque, but Al Leiter will start Sunday in Beckett's place.
