DENVER -- After struggling for run support for weeks, Jason Hammel got enough scoring to withstand his biggest mistake of the night.

Chris Nelson hit his first major-league home run during a six-run second inning and Carlos Gonzalez homered and doubled to drive in four runs, helping to make a winner of Hammel for the first time in six weeks as the Colorado Rockies beat the Detroit Tigers 13-6 Friday night.

Rookie Charlie Blackmon added four hits and two RBIs as part of the Rockies' second-highest scoring output of the season. The Rockies improved their winning percentage in interleague games to .620 (49-30) since 2006, tops in the NL since then.

"It was awesome," Hammel said. "Hats off to the guys tonight. Good hitting. Obviously it makes a pitcher so much more comfortable when you have room for error."

Hammel (4-6) weathered Jhonny Peralta's grand slam in the sixth to win for the first time since April 30, snapping a string of five consecutive losing decisions. He allowed six runs on eight hits in 6 1-3 innings and walked four with two strikeouts.

"His record is not indicative of the way he's pitched," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of Hammel, who had allowed three or fewer runs in four of his previous five outings. "We got some runs for him tonight."

The Rockies, who won their third in a row, did most of their damage against Detroit starter Rick Porcello (6-5), who allowed nine runs - six earned - in three innings. He walked two and struck out none.

"It wasn't very pretty," Porcello said. "I wasn't locating my fastball. Days when I have success, I'm locating my sinker well and days I don't, it's up. They were all over it. It all happened so quick. Before I knew it they were up seven, eight runs.

The Rockies batted around in the second inning. Chris Iannetta started the flurry with an RBI single and Hammel, who had issued a bases-loaded walk in the first, drew one himself to drive in Colorado's second run. After Gonzalez had a sacrifice fly, Nelson drove Porcello's 2-2 offering into the left field bleachers for a three-run shot that capped the Rockies' big inning.

Colorado extended its lead to 9-1 with a three-run third. Seth Smith led off with a triple and scored when third baseman Alex Avila failed to handle Ty Wigginton's grounder for an error. Blackmon singled before Gonzalez doubled to center to drive in two more runs.

"Tonight, I got so much run support, I'm actually disappointed I gave back six," Hammel said. "That's tough. All the damage was done on one swing, and my fastball command right now is shady at best. But it's only a matter of time with the offense on this team. It's starting to click right now."

Blackmon said Hammel deserved the burst of run support after some hard-luck outings previously.

"It's always good, especially early, to give your pitcher some runs to work with," Blackmon said.

Troy Tulowitzi hit a run-scoring double in the fifth and Gonzalez connected for his 10th homer of the season in the sixth around Peralta's slam.

Gonzalez also had a key assist in the third inning, fielding Magglio Ordonez's two-out single to center and throwing out Miguel Cabrera at the plate.

Cabrera had a run-scoring groundout in the seventh.
