07/11/16RBJamaal CharlesKneeQUESTIONABLECharles (knee) will take part in individual drills at Tuesday's minicamp practice, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Charles has been present at offseason practices for rehab and off-field work for the past few weeks, but he's yet to make an on-field appearance alongside his teammates. Tuesday thus marks a significant step in his recovery from the torn ACL suffered in Week 5 last year, with all reports to date suggesting that Charles is on/ahead of schedule. There is some thought that Charles, even if he returns to full health, might lose touches to Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West, who formed an effective duo in the superstar's absence last season. Prior to the injury, Charles was handling a huge workload while playing the vast majority of offensive snaps; he had 71 carries, 21 receptions, 541 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns in just 4.5 games.

07/11/16DBPhillip GainesKneePROBABLEGaines (knee) "will probably be the guy at the [other] corner spot [opposite Marcus Peters]" according to head coach Andy Reid, the the Kansas City Star reports.

When 2015 starter Sean Smith bolted for Oakland, the starting cornerback job opposite AP Defensive Rookie of the Year Marcus Peters went up for grabs. Though lost to an ACL tear last September, Gaines appears to be the frontrunner for the gig. He's been unable to participate in team drills during the majority of the Chiefs' offseason program, but has taken part in individual drills and should be ready for training camp. If his knee holds up through the end of the summer, the starting job should be his to lose.

04/27/16LBJustin HoustonKneeQUESTIONABLEHouston (knee) won't be ready for the start of next month's training camp, ESPN.com reports.

The Chiefs still do not have a concrete timetable outlined for Houston, who underwent ACL surgery in February, though GM John Dorsey maintains that the linebacker will play for the team at some point this coming season. With that in mind, Dorsey noted of Houston, "I don't know how much he's going to do in camp. But, listen, he's where he needs to be right now and he's a hard worker. He's bound and determined to get back. We'll just see how it works out. There is no timetable. It's just when he's right, he's right and we'll roll." Houston, who racked up 22 sacks in 2014, is coming off a 2015 campaign in which he recorded 30 tackles and 7.5 sacks in 11 games.

07/11/16WRSteve JohnsonGroinPROBABLEAfter missing the final four games of the regular season, Johnson finished 2015 with 45 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns in ten games.

Johnson missed a total of six games because a hamstring injury caused him to miss Weeks 5 and 6 in addition to missing the last four games of the year due to a groin injury. When he was healthy, he was a productive slot receiver who would typically make four or five catches per game on a good passing team. Johnson should be back for more of the same in 2016.

07/11/16DBJason VerrettHamstringPROBABLEVerrett (hamstring) has begun working out with fellow Chargers teammates, ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports.

Verrett, who missed the Chargers final game of the regular season due to a hamstring injury, was spotted working out with a few members of the secondary at a training facility in California. San Diego's leader in interceptions last year, Verrett is expected to take over more of a leadership role on defense with veteran captain Eric Weddle widely expected to sign with another team during the offseason.

07/11/16RBDanny WoodheadAnklePROBABLEWoodhead (ankle) is expected to be healthy for training camp, Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Woodhead sprained his ankle during the second-to-last day of minicamp, but was able to walk off under his own power. Considering Melvin Gordon may need some time to get his feet underneath him following offseason microfracture knee surgery, the 32-year-old running back is expected to be one of the main weapons for the Chargers, particularly in third down and no-huddle situations.

05/17/16RBMelvin GordonKneePROBABLEGordon (knee) participated in team drills during minicamp, but isn't expected back at full strength until training camp, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Recovering from January knee surgery, Gordon was observed taking handoffs and catching passes during San Diego's first day of minicamp. This increased level of activity suggests the running back's recovery is progressing well, and barring any setbacks, he should indeed be ready to go for training camp.

04/27/16DBBrandon FlowersKneePROBABLEFlowers (knee) is healthy after ending the season on IR, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Flowers failed to record a single interception last season, the first time he hasn't recorded at least one takeaway in his six-year career. Couple that with the fact that he registered just 33 tackles (29 solo), and it's fair to say Flowers is coming off his worst season as a pro. However, following an offseason in which the 30-year-old corner reportedly trimmed 10-12 pounds off his frame and appears completely healthy following a nagging knee injury that caused him to miss the final four games of the regular season, Flowers looks to be on the upswing heading into the new year. Even with Casey Hayward joining the secondary via free agency, Flowers is still expected to start opposite Jason Verrett and could be a good candidate to rebound should he stay healthy.

04/27/16DLCorey LiugetFootPROBABLELiuget is feeling "much better" after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in December, Micahel Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Liuget had tallied 34 tackles (28 solo) and three sacks before his Week 13 injury against the Broncos. The 26-year-old, who signed a five-year extension prior to last year's training camp, reportedly weighed between 313-315 pounds throughout the 2015 season, but is expecting to cut his weight down to 295 by the season opener. With the Chargers selecting Joey Bosa with the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Liuget and Bosa could form an impressive duo on the defensive line capable of wreaking havoc on opposing offenses should both players stay healthy.
