Shakur Stevenson earns WBC lightweight title in decision win over Edwin De Los Santos
Stevenson picked up a title in his third weightclass on Thursday as he hopes to lure one of the biggest names into a showdown
Shakur Stevenson is now a three-division champion. Stevenson, the former Olympic silver medalist, grinded out a tough win over Edwin De Los Santos on Thursday night to claim the WBC lightweight crown in Las Vegas.
In what was a difficult fight to watch for the sheer lack of action, Stevenson was the busier of the two fighters over the course of 12 rounds as he tried to control distance with his lengthy jab and incredible defense. According to CompuBox, Stevenson and De Los Santos combined to land just 33 power punches in the fight. De Los Santos landed just 40 punches in the fight, which is the fewest CompuBox has record in its 38 years for a 12-round fight.
Stevenson, to his credit, owned up to his struggles in the ring after the bout.
"I had a bad performance tonight," Stevenson said. "I wasn't feeling too good. I'll live with it, it's OK. I came in, got the victory and that's all I wanted to do."
The win for Stevenson sets up the potential for a showdown with Devin Haney, who earned undisputed status in the division in June 2022 before deciding to move up to 140 pounds for a showdown with Regis Prograis in December. There was hope the two would meet after Haney scored the biggest win of his career against Vasiliy Lomachenko in May, but those negotiations never even began.

Emanuel Navarrete vs. Robson Conceicao saw Conceicao win the majority of rounds but suffer two knockdowns (R4 and R7) when Navarrete got his momentum rolling. It's hard to say a card slightly in favor of either man would be wrong. We now move to the official scorecards for a very interesting decision
First of two championship fights is underway. Emanuel Navarrete looks to defend his WBO junior lightweight title against Olympian Robson Conceicao. Navarrete picked up this title when Stevenson moved up to 135 pounds and it's possible he could secure a date with Stevenson if he chooses to move up in weight after this fight and Stevenson gets past De Los Santos.
