The Blue Jays selected Cooney with the No. 103 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Cooney was drafted as a shortstop but may end up at second base long term. Cooney, a righty hitter from Oregon, doesn't swing and miss very often, but also doesn't project to hit for notable power. He stole 28 bases in 117 games the past two seasons.
