Kevin Herget: Elects free agency

Herget elected to become a free agent Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Herget was pushed off the Reds' 40-man roster in early September and will now get an early start on free agency. The 32-year-old reliever owns a rough 5.74 ERA and 17:6 K:BB in 31.1 career major-league innings.
