The Mariners acquired Smith, right-hander Seranthony Dominguez and outfielder Nolan Jones from the White Sox on Saturday in exchange for right-hander Luis Castillo, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
A sixth-round selection of the Nationals in the 2025 First Year Player Draft, Smith was dealt to the White Sox in March for infielder Curtis Mead (wrist). The catching prospect is now on the move for the second time in just over a year since being drafted. Smith has enjoyed an excellent 2026 campaign, and since receiving a promotion to the Double-A level at the beginning of July, he's slashed .306/.479/.667 with eight home runs across 96 plate appearances. Smith is likely to report to Seattle's Double-A affiliate in Arkansas.
