The Padres selected Borthwick with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Borthwick has significant upside as a 6-foot-6 righty starter, although he was a notable hitter as well in high school. He had a strong commitment to Auburn but figures to turn pro after getting selected in the first round. He gets his mid-90s fastball up to 98 mph with good life and also boasts a plus slider. Borthwick was the first righty from the prep ranks off the board in this year's draft.
