    • The Astros recalled Stubbs from their alternate training site Tuesday ahead of the team's wild-card opener against the Twins. Stubbs will serve as Houston's third catcher during the postseason, providing depth behind Martin Maldonado and Dustin Garneau. The 27-year-old appeared in 14 games during the regular season, going 1-for-8 at the dish.

    • Stubbs was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday and will remain with the team on the taxi squad, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 27-year-old earned a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he'll be removed from the active roster with Josh James (hip) returning from the injured list. Stubbs went 1-for-8 with one run and one RBI in 14 appearances this season.

    • Stubbs is part of Houston's 30-man roster, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports. As expected, Stubbs will open the season with the Astros thanks to expanded rosters. He'll serve as the team's third catcher for now, though the team has also talked about potentially using him at other positions.

    • Stubbs will likely be part of the Astros' expanded roster, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Stubbs lost out on the backup catcher job to Dustin Garneau in spring training and was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, but the luxury of an expanded roster means Houston can carry a third catcher. The Astros have talked about using Stubbs at other positions, which could benefit him as the team trims its roster from 30 to 28 two weeks into the season, then from 28 to 26 two weeks later.

    • Stubbs was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Stubbs impressed in his limited opportunities before Spring Training was suspended, slashing .455/.625/.727 with a homer and two steals in 16 plate appearances, but it wasn't enough for him to beat out Dustin Garneau for the job as Houston's backup catcher.
