Perez is out of the lineup for Monday's contest in Atlanta. After starting each of the previous seven games, Perez will take a seat Monday as Atlanta goes with southpaw Max Fried on the mound. Matt Vierling will replace Perez in right field.... See More ... See Less

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Reaches four times in loss
Perez went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Nationals. Perez was just 2-for-21 over his previous six contests, though he bookmarked either end of the cold stretch with three-hit games. The 24-year-old rookie is understandably going through some ups and downs, but it looks like he'll continue to see regular playing time for the Tigers, at least while Kerry Carpenter (back) is on the injured list.... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Batting leadoff Sunday
Perez is starting in right field and batting first in Sunday's game against the Brewers. Perez wasn't in the starting lineup Saturday, though he did appear as a pinch hitter, and he'll be back in there Sunday. The 24-year-old rookie is 0-for-12 across his last four games, which has lowered his batting average from .268 to .247. Despite the recent slump, Perez should continue to see semi-regular playing time moving forward, mixing in with Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Akil Baddoo in Detroit's outfield.... See More ... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Idle Saturday
Perez isn't in the Tigers' lineup Saturday versus Milwaukee. Perez has gone 0-for-11 at the plate across his last three games, and the Tigers will now give him a chance to regroup. Justyn-Henry Malloy, Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo will start across the outfield while Perez sits.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Taking seat Wednesday
Perez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Perez started the previous five games and will head to the bench Wednesday after he went 4-for-21 during that stretch. Matt Vierling will take over in center field while Zach McKinstry receives a start in right.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Tallies three hits
Perez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Red Sox. Perez matched a season high with three hits, plating a run with his seventh-inning double and later scoring the go-ahead run in the 10th. He had entered the game in a 3-for-28 skid over his last seven starts prior to his outburst Sunday. The 24-year-old rookie outfielder has now accumulated 14 extra-base hits, including six doubles, five triples and three homers while driving in 15 runs, scoring 22 and swiping four bags over 152 plate appearances.... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Getting breather for series finale
Perez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Unless the Tigers deploy him off the bench Wednesday, Perez will put his five-game hitting streak on hold in the series finale while he exits the starting nine for the first time since May 12. Matt Vierling will spell Perez in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Triples twice, drives in four
Perez went 2-for-4 with two triples, a run scored and four RBI in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Perez batted third and continued his strong start to the season, as he boosted his batting average to an even .300 and his OPS to .906. The versatile 24-year-old has settled in as the team's primary center fielder due to Parker Meadows being demoted to the minors. Perez should hold onto fantasy value as long as he's seeing regular playing time and swinging a hot bat.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Back in action
Perez (illness) is batting second and playing center field Tuesday against Cleveland. Perez had missed back-to-back games due to illness but will return to the lineup for Tuesday's action, replacing the now-demoted Parker Meadows in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Out again Monday
Perez (illness) remains out of the lineup for Monday's contest in Cleveland. Perez was a late scratch ahead of Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees due to an illness, and he'll receive at least one more day of rest. Parker Meadows will get another start in center field in Perez's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Scratched with illness
Perez was scratched from the lineup Sunday against the Yankees due to an illness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Perez was penciled in for his seventh consecutive start but will instead hit the bench due to an illness. He should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Cleveland.... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Smacks first career homer
Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Royals. Perez' first career dinger came in the first inning off Kansas City starter Michael Wacha and represented what turned out to be the game-winning blast for the Tigers. The rookie outfielder has started four of the past five games for the Tigers and has found himself consistently toward the top of the lineup, hitting in the three hole for the third consecutive start. Through 35 at-bats, Perez has 10 hits, including one double, two triples and a home run with five RBI and four runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Doubles, swipes bag
Perez went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Saturday's loss to the Twins in the second game of a doubleheader. Perez reached on an infield single in his first at-bat and stole second but was left stranded. He also reached second base in the bottom of the seventh, this time on a two-out double, but was again left hanging as Detroit's offense struggled to get anything going on the night. The two hits were the first of the season for the second baseman, though he also drew a walk and scored in the first game of the doubleheader.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Recalled from Triple-A
Perez was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez has a .782 OPS with one homer and four steals this season with Toledo and will be making his major-league debut in the event he gets into a game. The 24-year-old has past experience in the infield but has moved to the outfield full-time in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Optioned to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Perez to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Perez had a strong finish to his 2023 season at Toledo and will head back there for some more refinement. The 24-year-old has a shot to debut for the Tigers at some point during the 2024 campaign.... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Reinstated, moved to Double-A
Perez (back) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Friday and transferred from Triple-A Toledo to Double-A Erie, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports. Perez has had very little trouble against minor-league pitching in his career thus far, slashing .307/.374/.533 over 171 plate appearances in Double-A last season. If he can carry that success into 2023, there's a good chance he makes his Triple-A debut at some point this summer.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Rehabbing at Single-A
Perez (back) began a rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on Friday and has gone 3-for-8 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI through his first two games. Perez opened the season on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list while working his way back from back inflammation, but he looks like he could be on track to join the Tigers' top affiliate at some point during the upcoming week.... Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Perez was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster Tuesday. Detroit added Perez to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from being selected during the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The 23-year-old split 2022 between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie, and he posted a .903 OPS with 14 home runs and 18 steals between the two levels.... See More ... See Less
