  • Ken Waldichuk SP | ATH

Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Staying with Athletics

Waldichuk and the Athletics avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Friday.

Waldichuk spent the first half of the 2025 regular season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in May of 2024. He was activated from the 60-day IL in mid-July and spent the rest of the year in the minors with Triple-A Las Vegas, where he posted a 2-6 record across 16 games (15 starts) with an 8.65 ERA, 2.06 WHIP and 64:42 K:BB across 51 innings. Waldichuk last saw major-league action in 2023 with the Athletics, and he'll look to impress the team enough during spring training to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster for 2026.

  • Luis Medina SP | ATH

Athletics' Luis Medina: Settles with Athletics

Medina (elbow) agreed a one-year contract with the Athletics on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Medina missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he began facing hitters in the batting cage by late September and should be back to full health by the time spring training starts. However, the 26-year-old righty owns a 5.35 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in his MLB career, so his place on the Athletics' Opening Day roster is far from guaranteed.

  • Carson Spiers SP | CIN

    Carson Spiers: Non-tendered by Reds

The Reds non-tendered Spiers (elbow) on Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Spiers was DFA'd by the Reds on Tuesday and will now officially leave the organization after not being offered a contract ahead of Friday's deadline. The 28-year-old righty underwent Tommy John surgery in late July and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

  • Clarke Schmidt SP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Avoids arbitration with Yankees

The Yankees and Schmidt (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million contract Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Schmidt ended the 2025 season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in mid-July, and he may not be available to pitch for the Yankees until after the All-Star break in 2026. Prior to his injury, Schmidt posted a 4-4 record across 14 starts with a 3.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 73:30 K:BB over 78.2 innings.

  • Joey Wentz SP | ATL

Braves' Joey Wentz: Settles with Atlanta

Atlanta and Wentz avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Friday.

Wentz showed some flashes after being claimed off waivers from Minnesota in 2025, finishing with a 4.92 ERA and 64:23 K:BB over 64 innings with Atlanta. The left-hander will compete for a spot in the rotation in spring training but could ultimately settle into a long relief role.

  • Evan McKendry SP | CHW

Marlins' Evan McKendry: Gets MiLB deal from Marlins

The Marlins signed McKendry to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Wednesday, his agent, Gavin Kahn, reports.

McKendry spent the 2025 season at the Triple-A level between the Brewers and White Sox organizations, putting up a 5.15 ERA and 57:18 K:BB over 80.1 innings. Slated to turn 28 in February, McKendry has no experience in the majors and is likely to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Frankie Montas SP | NYM

Frankie Montas: Officially parts ways with Mets

The Mets released Montas (elbow) on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The move was a foregone conclusion after Montas was designated for assignment Tuesday. The veteran right-hander will miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Montas is still owed $17 million next season, and the Mets will be responsible for picking up that tab.

  • Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Starting mound work in January

Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Wednesday that Rodriguez (elbow) will begin throwing bullpen sessions in January and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training, Taylor Blake Ward of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Acquired from the Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for Taylor Ward, Rodriguez missed all of the 2025 campaign due to multiple arm issues and eventually underwent a right elbow debridement to remove a bone spur in August. He had been slated to begin a throwing program in October and will progress to mound work in January. Staying healthy has been difficult for Rodriguez, but he's flashed big upside when on the bump and will carry a career 4.11 ERA and 259:78 K:BB over 238.2 regular-season frames into the 2026 season. Rodriguez is sure to have some kind of workload restrictions with his new club in 2026 following a lost season.

  • River Ryan P | LAD

Dodgers' River Ryan: Normal buildup in spring training

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said during the GM Meetings last week that Ryan (elbow) will go through a "normal" buildup during spring training, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Ryan hasn't pitched since August 2024 Tommy John surgery, but he should have a relatively normal spring training since the righty will be 18 months removed from the operation by that point. The 27-year-old held a 1.33 ERA and 18:9 K:BB over 20.1 innings covering four starts for the Dodgers in 2024, but after a long layoff, he's likely to begin the 2026 season in the minors.

  • Gavin Stone SP | LAD

Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Will be ready for spring training

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said during last week's GM Meetings that Stone (shoulder) will be ready for spring training and have a "normal" buildup, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Stone missed the entire 2025 campaign while recovering from right shoulder surgery. The operation involved the repair of a full capsule tear and partial tears of the labrum and rotator cuff, so it's uncertain how Stone's stuff will bounce back from such a major operation. However, at least at this time, he appears to be in line for a relatively normal spring training. Given the Dodgers' rotation depth and Stone's long layoff, the 27-year-old is likely to begin the 2026 campaign in the minors.
