  • Harkless mustered seven points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal across 28 minutes in Wednesday's 112-103 overtime loss to the Jazz. Harkless saw teammates Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollumm and Jusuf Nurkic put up 65 shot attempts overall, which left precious little for anyone else. The reduced usage led to Harkless' lowest number of shot attempts on the season and a second consecutive single-digit scoring tally. Given the extensive offensive roles that the aforementioned trio boasts within the Blazers' system, Harkless' scoring contributions will inevitably continue to fluctuate on a nightly basis.

  • Harkless registered 13 points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block across 36 minutes in Thursday's 104-103 loss to the Clippers. Harkless has been difficult to gauge from a fantasy perspective in the early going. He's put up just five shot attempts in two games and logged either nine or 10 in his three other contests. He's predictably gone for single digits in the scoring column in two of the three low-usage outings, but poured in 13 points apiece in the two games when he's been more involved. The inconsistency isn't exactly surprising, considering the fact the Blazers offense is designed to run through the backcourt. Consequently, fantasy owners will likely have to live with the rollercoaster production throughout the season.

  • Harkless will start at small forward for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Suns, Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports. The Trail Blazers had an open competition during training camp for both forward spots, and they'll roll out Harkless and Al-Farouq Aminu for the opener. However, with C.J. McCollum out on suspension, Evan Turner drew the start at shooting guard, so it remains to be seen if Harkless has truly beaten out Turner for a spot in the top unit. Once McCollum returns on Friday, we should get a better indication of the expected starters moving forward, but Harkless should still see boosted value for the time being on Wednesday.

  • Harkless collected seven points (2-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and two steals across 20 minutes in Wednesday's 113-104 preseason win over the Suns. Harkless posted his second straight seven-point effort as part of the first unit, while Evan Turner, who Harkless is battling for the starting small forward job, outperformed him for a second consecutive contest off the bench. The 24-year-old generated only one double-digit scoring performance over five exhibitions and could potentially be relegated to a role off the bench to open the regular season.

  • Harkless mustered seven points (3-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds and one steal across 29 minutes in Friday's 97-83 exhibition win over the Kings. Harkless had been perfect from the field just a night prior, but his production took a slight downturn Monday. He was outplayed by his primary competition for the top small forward job, Evan Turner, with the latter generating 10 points in just 17 minutes off the bench. Nevertheless, the battle between the two has been fairly even throughout the first four exhibitions, and Harkless is expected to see a solid amount of minutes irrespective of whether he's able to secure the top spot at the three heading into the regular season.
