Harkless will start Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports. Harkless came off the bench in Monday's exhibition opener, but he'll receive the starting nod Wednesday. Marvin Bagley will shift to the bench for Sacramento.
Harkless agreed Monday to a two-year, $9 million contract with the Kings, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Harkless spent last season between the Heat and Kings, being dealt to Sacramento in March of 2021. He saw 24.9 minutes per game with the Kings and started 20 of his 24 appearances, with the veteran averaging 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals. He should continue to see minutes in the low-to-mid-20s as a three-and-D option at forward.
Harkless was removed from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Jazz, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports. Harkless was a late scratch Sunday, and it's not yet clear whether he'll play off the bench. Louis King will take his place in the lineup.
Harkless generated 18 points (5-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-6 FT), five rebounds, three assists and one steal in 26 minutes Sunday in the Kings' 126-98 win over the Thunder. With De'Aaron Fox (COVID-19 health and safety protocols), Harrison Barnes (groin) and Tyrese Haliburton (knee) still out of the lineup Sunday, Harkless surprisingly stepped up on the offensive end to lift the Kings to resounding win. Though Harkless has been a fixture in the starting five for more than a month, he typically offers most of his fantasy impact in the defensive categories, and managers shouldn't expect that to change after Sunday's scoring outburst. Harkless had averaged only 7.8 points on 50 percent shooting from the field over the Kings' first four games of May.
Harkless was held scoreless (0-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt) with three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in Wednesday's 49-point loss to the Jazz. With Harrison Barnes out, Harkless was a popular, low-cost DFS pivot, but he turned in a complete dud, failing to score in his 24 minutes of action. Harkless did provide a pair of blocks, but it was nonetheless a poor all-around showing for the 27-year-old, who's started the last 11 games.
